Yeah, so I switched out my x1800XT for another one and saw an insignificant 10pt increase. This is a newly built system with a brand new hard drive, windows copy, drivers, etc. I'm actually going to return this card for a x1800XL as I'm able to get a new one for $239 through work. We'll see how...
I turned off the Catalyst AI and it got me an additional 50 points, so now I'm up to 7004. Should I turn off the AI just for benching or all the time? Also, are there any more theories as to what might be going on? I think I may try to exchange the card for another x1800 XT and see if that...
I would still like to know if my card running at 82 degrees celcius is as much of a problem as I believe it to be (that's almost 180 fahrenheit!). Even if Rivatuner didnt show a dropoff in core clock speed it is still a possibility that my GPU could be throttling, no? At the very least, it shows...
Okie, ya, the clocks got up to 621/1494 while running 3DMark. However, I noticed the core temp was as high as 82C at one point. Is that normal?? To me that seems like one tick away from meltdown, but I'm still a novice compared to some of you guys.
Lemme know what you think.
Here is what Rivatuner is telling me:
----------------------------------------------------------------
$ffffffffff ATI specific display adapter information
$ffffffffff ----------------------------------------------------------------
$0900000000 Graphics core : R520 (16x1)...
D'oh, I reinstalled everything and was greeted by the sames results. I compared my 3DMark scores, and my CPU scores are comparable if not higher than many of my AMD counterparts. If the CPU isn't the problem, what else could there be? Should I return this card and try to get another one...
If my problems were limited to my 3DMark score I wouldn't really mind. However, when I try to play Battlefield2 at 1280x1024 with high settings my system still is a bit choppy. (and I do have 2Gb of system memory).
Just formatted the system and am trying to bench again. not sure what to do...
Well, I tried uninstalling the drivers and running the driver cleaner utility and got the same results. Is my next step to format the system and start over?
Also, I noticed that when I go to the details of my score there is a section for my video card performance which lists my 3DMark score...
Welp, I got the .net installed and I was able to open up the CCC. I set the slider to performance and ran 3D Mark again, seeing a whopping 7 point increase. Well, I guess I'll try to uninstall teh drivers and reinstall. If that does not work, I'll format and reinstall everything, and see if that...
Ugh, I'm not sure what's wrong. I tried reinstalling the drivers, but my score is still 6950. Also, when I try to start the Catalyst Control Center I get the message "The application failed to initialize properly". Is this normal for x1800 cards?
