Regarding the ECC, we've been running a VMware environment internally for our lab use for probably 15 years - the last 6 have been on plain consumer workstation hardware like AMD Zen3 and without ECC. I've never noticed it being a problem. No random crashes or corruption. And if we did have one...
My work finally gave me something I asked for in our VM environment. I'm referring to the RAM kit. I definitely did not ask for the Intel CPU.

This space has been slightly tweaked recently by the non-binary memory sticks that are compatible with desktop platforms. Which is to say, the fact that I can buy a Zen system with 192 GB of RAM does slightly reduce the 'market surface area' for the Threadripper product.

Igor posted a video a few days ago where a company was designing purpose-built rack-mount computers where the power supply is a stand alone box in the rack, and it provides thick copper rail DC power to any devices that slide into the rack.
Let's connect the GPU directly onto this external DC rail.
