Hi all.
I intend to do an Academic project based on RAID technology. The basic idea is to implement RAID 0 ,1 ,5 on my College Intranet server.
I am thinking of doing this project from an Industry perspective so that it can be helpful in building my Resume .
What generally are the...
You will loose your data only if you have data . :) What i mean is , there is no point in making RAID 0 of 500GB disks. RAID 0 arrays should be as minimal as possible , and all the personal stuffs in a separate hard drives.
How would i loose my data if it's present in a separate disk untouched...
Thanks for the detailed reply Modelworks. So bottom line is that CPU provides a generic approach where one can incorporate larger rendering based applications , whereas GPU is highly specific. Something like coding in High language and Assembly Language.. is it ?
I wanted to benchmark certain...
Is it necessary that for a RAID system the drives need to be from the same vendor? like either 2 WD hard drives(RAID 0) or 2 Seagate. Can we have hard drives of different vendors.?
Thanks Emulex, could you please elaborate on it?. I am totally new to RAID concept (practically as well as theoretically).
From googling so far i have narrowed down to these conclusions
RAID 0 - Highest speedup, lowest secure
RAID 1- Lowest speedup,Highest secure
RAID 5 -A blend of both...

I found a workaround. After backing all the data , i thought why not change the sata ports and plug the hard drive to another port. It worked..My machine started normally as before. Earlier the process was daam slow..almost 6 -7 mins for the startup screen. No more delayed write error as well...!
One more thing i forgot to mention.
I am currenly on the Ubuntu live CD. I am not able to create even a single text file in the other partions.. have look at the screenshot
