Win XP Upgrade and DialUp problem

I'm still a baby in Win XP, thus this question might be silly. Still... I've upgraded to XP from Win 98 without problem. However, now my dialup, which worked fine under 98, refused to cooperate. It calls the server, passed the password, establish the connection (?) and that's it. I can't get to...

    XP and SCSI

I've got a nice old Diamond Fireport 40 SCSI card. As it has BIOS of it own, technically it doesn't need any drivers for Windows. Now, do you think Win XP will work with it? As the card is not supported by manufacturer anymore, the chances are no goog, but maybe somebedy has some experience there?

    How to slow down cd-rom?

The subject says it all. With some cd's my 40X Yamaha sounds like it'll explode shattering the rest of the box. I guess the drive isn't that good overall, but when it slows down, it's quite usable. Is there any software solution which allows to control the rotation speed?

GeForce2 MX Settings won't change. Help!

Actually, they are changing, but only untill reboot. After reboot everything (including OC, digital picture control, brightness) come back to it's default values. What is that? It've started one before last update of Detonater. Any workarround or registry tweak? Thanx!

Swaping out a Mobo and CPU - AMD for Intel - Issues????

It won't work properly - that's a fact. Most probably it will boot and you might even get to desktop, but unless you install 4-in-1, forget about DMA, and anything better than 64X640X480. And if you have any extras (like SBLive!) - forget about installing 4-in-1 on top of it. At the end you'll...

Weird Standby Problem: Every second time I go to standby-mode, it locks up

My best bet is that the problem is caused by certain conflict with videocard. In my experience it's the most common cause of the hangup in the systems. Try to play with BIOS settings for videocard, and/or drivers (if possible). Try that first.

    Phoenix/Award BIOS is now Spyware!!!???

Maybe you right. Maybe you wrong. I still remember all the buzz surrounding Pentium ID. However, I guess you'll agreeon this one, what's been offered as an innocent candy could turn into piece of ch^t later in your mouth. Especially, when you're dealing with such low level programs. You ignore...

    Phoenix/Award BIOS is now Spyware!!!???

Bozo, are you working for Phoenix? A number of users at Sysopt claimed to have similar problems with newer BIOS. ZULU, unless you have BIOS option to disable PhoenixNet, I'm afraid - you screwed.

(reposted from Sysopt Forum) (Reposted from the Fred Langa's newsletter. Sorry about the crummy formatting. I didn't have time to fix it all.) Oh No! *Hardware-Based* Phone Home Apps! It's true: Phoenix, the BIOS people (they make the Phoenix and Award BIOSes), recently launched PhoenixNet...

    Outpost.com shoppers, beware...

For those who used to/still buying CD's and other cheap stuff from them: Free shipping is no more, unless you speding 100$. Worse. Recently, I've ordered a spindle of 50 Kingston CD-Rs + 10 3" CD-r's, thinking that in that case 9$ s/h is OK. But, here is what happened - spindle was...

New Test Drive Offers from Nissan!

Last time, I took 3 of my friends (all armed with certificates) to the lacal dealership. The "friendlyn dealer" rushed to us with a brightest smile these guys can make. You should see his face, when I, in pollite ways, explained him the reason for our visit. No. We weren't planning to...
