I think I killed my primary partition

I was having problems getting Windows XP to load after an improper shut down. I have a RAID0 arry for my primary drive. I was finally able to get Windows to boot from CD using my Windows XP disk and a floppy with my RAID drivers (using F6). I tried to do an installation repair, but it did...

    WindowsXP won't boot from RAID0

I shut down my pc improperly, and now I can't get XP to read my RAID0 array. I have a Pentium4 with a 925x chipset (Abit AA8, now discontinued). My bios settings are fine. I can also see that the Raid drives are recognized when they show up on the PCI Device Listing. After BIOS displays...

    NLE Dud...

Awesome, thanks for all of the great advice. My cpu is mildly overclocked. I will try going back to stock and see if that helps. Avidemux sounds great (and you can't beat the price!) Thanks again everyone.

Yeah, I meant 1 GB of memory! My pc labored for probably at least 12 hours and the cpu kept overheating (despite using an upgraded Thermaltake CPU fan and quality case). By jumbled mess, I mean that after such a lengthy encoding process, my finished product never agreed with the video...

I looked at the Abit site too. The AA8 doesn't show up on the list of motherboards supporting the C2D, but I am not sure if that is because the board is discontinued or because it's truly incompatible.

Thanks! I am glad to hear that I can run the Core Duo. I thought I was limited to Pentium4s.

I built my pc a couple years ago to do home video editing. I thought I had chosen my components well, but it completely failed to do the work. The pc labors for hours to render (using Pinnacle or MS Movie), and the final output is always a jumbled mess. Here is my current system: Pentium...

Recovering from a crashed hard drive

Sorry my topic title was confusing. I am trying to Recover data from a friend's crashed hard drive. I have no intention of fixing the drive permanently, rather I was looking for a way to get it running long enough that we could retrieve family photos. I don't care about the OS. Probably I...

Recovering from a crashed hard drive

I did find this link from Tech Republic to be of interest (200 ways to revive a hard drive) http://techrepublic.com.com/5100-6255-5029761-13.html

Recovering from a crashed hard drive

Fortunately it is not my hard drive; it is a friend's drive. I am not sure what model it is yet (drive was only 2 or 3 years old). They lost a year's worth of pictures of their daughter and did not have a backup. I suggested they send it to a data recovery specialist, but they were put off by...

Recovering from a crashed hard drive

Does anyone here know of a good link to info on how to rebuild a bad harddrive? I know that data recovery companies can fix a bad drive by buying the same model harddrive and then mounting the old platter in the new drive. I have tried googling for a faq or how-to on this, but couldn't find...

    Where's the bottleneck

Awsome...I thought I had the most up to date nvidia driver, but I was wrong. After updating to 6.6.8.1 my 3DMark shot up to 2919! That's a huge improvement! Man I hope they keep on releasing updates like that! Thanks Ronin for your thread, it really helped to compare systems. I had...

    Where's the bottleneck

Thanks for the feedback. AA and AF are disabled and the nvidia settings are on "performance." The default BIOS settings are mildly overclocked (Abit default settings?!). Maybe I'll try to step it back to 200MHz and see if that helps. And then maybe I will go the other direction and see...

    Where's the bottleneck

    I never intended for this system to be a barn-burner, but I had hoped that the 3DMark would be better than a wimpy 2283 (and that was my best run). Retail Pentium 4 Processor 520, LGA775 - 2.80 GHz, 1Mb L2-Cache, 800 MHz FSB Abit AA8 3rd Eye 925X 1 GB Corsair DDR2 (2 x 512) 2 Western...
