I think that it's be good to see the current state of gaming under Linux, as an evaluation of its evolution. As for which games, the standard suite (it they all run) would be a good choice.

I think we're all familiar with benchmarks under WindowsXP , but I'd really love to see benchmarks of Linux using Transgamings software. To that end I'm willing to put up the cash for the license if need be. Anyone else like to see how it benches?

I guess I should mention my system is primarily used for gaming Quake3/Half-Life (which runs more than perfectly)/Dues-Ex, etc... my budget is 1,000 even (wife, what can I say). Basically I'm after something that'll let me play the new Doom (when it comes out) decently.

Okay I've got an Athlon 900/256PC133/Radeon 64VIVO ... now here the problem I can upgrade the CPU/RAM/<B to a AlthonXP 1800/256DDR/Via333 platform and keep the video card, or keep the whole system and upgrade to a GeForce4 4600VIVO when it comes out...which am I better served by?

I'm trying to turn old avi and mpeg movies in Divx ones (mpeg4 right?) but I have no idea what software to download. I'm running Win98, MediaPlayer 7. Thx
