All the new bathroom faucet assy's come with "pop up drain stoppers"...wonder how reliable they are and what issues if any I should expect?? I want to replace my single unit assy with black three piece assy with pop up drain stopper...

It's a pop waste, been around for years. Sometimes the break, often they don't. On the scale of things to be concerned about, this should be down around what brand of plastic wrap you use.
My only bit of real advice is don't buy anything made by Glacier Bay.

We've had them in the most recent couple of master bathtubs. I don't LIKE them...but they (usually) work just fine.

The drains in my "luxury" apartment (read: built in the last 15 years, and renovated within the last 3-6 years) has pop up/down drains for the bathroom sink and shower. No issues to date with them. One thing I kind of like about them: they are easy to unscrew to get hair out of the drain.

They look good but all the pop ups I've looked at are plastic so I have reservations about them...

That's fair. I believe under the shiny top, the ones in my place are plastic, but we also haven't had any issues with them in the 3 years we've lived in this place.

In any newer home all of the plumbing behind the walls is plastic.
A plastic pop waste if easily replaceable. It's not as troublesome as a rusted lug nut.
