Guy that lives across the hall from me has totally fubared his computer...its giving me BSOD's after windows loading in normal boot, and when i get to the desktop in safe mode i get that NT Authority is forcing a system shutdown, you have 60 seconds, blah blah blah due to process DCOM Server Process Launcher process failing to start. I know i have heard of ways to circumvent that shutdown process, i just can't remember. any suggestions? this is WinXP pro.

"shutdown /a" at a command prompt/run if it's that kind of shutdown. Worth a try.

This sounds a little different than blaster. Probably some reg keys got hosed like RPCs and RPCLocator.

There is a trojan out there that can cause this as well as some jacked registry keys.

Did he just get done running some anti-spyware/adware before the last reboot?

If adware, run it again and have it undo what it just did.

If not, jump back to the last system restore point.

If still no luck, do a repair install.
