So i am seeking advice in my quest to buy new LCD monitor to more adequately accompany my latest X99 rig with 2 1080 gpus. Currently using 5 or 6 years old HP zr24w 24 inch 1920*1200 display.

The things i usually do or most likely i am going to do:

- browsing the web
- working with CAD apps (autocad, 3dsmax, octane render, photoshop, sketch-up, etc...)
- watching vids (mostly tv shows or movies off torrents or via netflix/hbo)
- occasional gaming (lately Battlefield 1, Call of Duty Blops III, Firewatch, Ashes of Singularity, The Crew...) i am not hardcore gamer, but indeed i appreciate playing games at highest possible quality

Taking all these into account, doing some research, i am looking currently at these options:

1. 27 inch 2560*1440 display - Asus-pg279q

http://www.144hzmonitors.com/monitors/asus-pg279q-27-inch-1440p-144hz-ips-g-sync-monitor/

reasons being IPS with apparently fairly good image quality, being 144Hz and G-sync, which is something i could enjoy while playing games, making them more fluid.

Alternatively Eizo-fs2735

http://gaming.eizo.com/products/foris_fs2735/

again 144Hz IPS, although Freesync, which is sad. I assume image quality wise and other features considered its superior to Asus, Eizo being superior display manufacturer.

2. 34 inch 3440*1440 ultra-wide curved - LG UltraWide 34UC98

cause ultra-wide is kinda awesome, the usability is a question though. Would be probably awesome for work with all the screen estate available. Looking at that LG, although its only Freesync, but G-sync 34 inch displays are like Acer X34 Predator are fairly expensive (1300 EUROs). Not sure i am ready to pay that much.

3. 32 inch 3840*2160 4K - Eizo-ev3237 Flexscan

https://www.eizo.cz/flexscan/ev3237-bk/

still bit pricey, 1300 EUROs too, but this being EIZO, thus very likely top-notch quality all around, so i am more willing to pay than for any gaming Acer display. Very likely awesome for work, given the physical size and resolution, and watching movies/netflix too. Way better than my current 24inch display for sure. The only question is its gaming capability - obviously at 4K its 60Hz only (not that i could play games at 4K and 144Hz, doubtful even with my 1080s) and lacks G-sync and in general its not really gaming display... although it has some kind of Overdrive feature to assure 5ms response time, which is apparently still decent and usable for non-hardcore gaming.

Currently edging toward this. What do you think? Would you rather go for other 2 options? Or do you have any alternative, in your opinion better, to each of the possibilities? Please help me to make the right choice.

Thx in advance.

Personally I wouldn't spend any considerable amount on monitor these days without being above 60Hz and having variable refresh rates. And since you're also using it for productivity the more pixels and physical size the better... Following that reasoning leaves a ~34 inch ~100Hz UWQHD (3440x1440); with Gsync because of 1080s.

I realize this is out of your comfortable price range. But considering monitors are one of the best hardware investments one can make, and you're already in the financial position to buy 2 x 1080s, that's what I'd recommend.

As far as which brands are best I'd suggest things aren't quite as black and white as you have suggested. Especially considering there are only a few companies making panels. The best "quality" consumer monitor I've ever owned or used was a 17" Acer with a 20ms Hydis panel, it had an almost solid Aluminium body and a bunch of different inputs. Man I loved that thing.

Thank you, much appreciate your response.

Sadly, my budget is limited, i already spent way too much money on the rig itself, so i cant spend way too much on the display, even though obviously, i would love to. Honestly, if had money to burn, i would go for that upcoming 30inch Dell OLED display. Anyway, i think being willing to pay 1300 EUROs, i dont think i am being too cheap, thats what i pretty much paid for those 2 1080s.

For the moment, i decided to go with alternative 3 from my OP, thus 31-32 inch 4K IPS display. Not going for 27 inch nor ultrawide definitely. I dont insist on that EIZO though (i agree its not black and white), i actually made some research and i see there are other alternatives (more or less in the same price range, but some even for 700 - 800 EUROs). I see there is Acer Predator with G-sync for example and 10-bit panel, actually for 200 EUROs cheaper than that EIZO... perhaps it would be better alternative... Then i saw bunch of BenQs, one new even with HDR apparently, then Samsung, Dell.... i would need advice now, which of them is sort of best all around.
