5500? Weak.

Nice looker though. Good to see a 6 speed option. Which Motor does the initial run come with, the 6.1?

That is close to the production model. As the story says, the B-pillar gives it away. They couldn't figure out a cheap way to get around it. If you look at all the camo'ed shots you will notice that they purposely hid that fact for quite awhile.

While I agree, that is what they will likely sell the most of with the high end V8 option. For those that this isn't just a daily driver, but more of a weekend car, they will drag race it and auto's are easier get off the line & of course are more consistent. Hell you will probably find people wanting to convert their manual to an auto one day if they get wrapped up in drag racing. Not advocating it, just saying...

Personally I think it needs more engine. The SRT8 is already 4200 lb with the 425HP 6.1L Hemi. This car will likely be heavier and will need some pretty aggressive gearing or more HP to get it moving.

I definitely see the appeal of this car, but it won't be a balls-out sports car. Handling won't be great and looks like it will have about the same power as a base Corvette plus nearly 1000 lb. It will be much more unique than a Corvette and should be a good cruiser.

I guess I can't really rag on it because it does have lots of appeal, just not my cup of tea.

Still cool tho

P.S. The 6.1L Hemi is definitely under-rated. It dyno'd like ~375 all-wheel HP in the Cherokee SRT8 (AWD), which according to the 425HP mfr-rating would make for a parasitic loss of like 11% - no way that's right on an automatic AWD vehicle. 15% loss puts it as 430 crank HP, or 20% is 450. Either way, very stout motor!

If its true I'm glad to see they are making a v6 version. Should help keep the price down and maybe make it stick around for awhile.

I don't really like the trend of gobs of horsepower in a huge vehicle, but it's nice to have the option.

What's the issue with the B-pillar? I didn't really follow the process from initial concept, did the original concept not have one?

They were trying to make it a true coupe by not having a B-pillar like the original, something the Camaro and Mustang both have in their modern incarnations. The concept always showed it would not have it.

Correct. But they couldn't figure out a way to lose the B pillar while keeping weight down, cost down, and rigidity up.

I got to sit in the concept model last year...can't wait to see this and the Camaro soon. Also can't wait to hear what it sounds like...I hope it's more aggressive than the usual SRT vehicles.

It better be, this car has a lot to live up to since it is basically going to be some competition to the mustang. Bring on the Camaro, more competition is always good. Horsepower wars are great

The Challenger just looks big. It's clearly built for style over functionality and packaging. With over 400 hp and plenty of torque, I'm sure it will be fast in a straight line. Handling will probably be similar to the Charger but slightly better.

A 2 door car like this is going to need a b pillar at this point to do well on the new side impact tests.

With cylinder deactivation and a tall 6th gear it should get reasonable highway mileage for a car of this weight and aerodynamics of a brick. I'd bet they're shooting for 30 mpg, so it should probably get 28 or so in the real world on the highway. That's really not that bad when you consider the SUVs littering the road now.

I still like Camaro, Mustang, BMW 135, Evo, and G37 better in the $25k - 35k price range.
