Default Is it illegal to transport alcohol across state lines (ohio to indiana)

So I came home this weekend for my 21st birthday, and my sister presents me with this *huge* bag of assorted kinds of alcohol. There is no way I'm drinking this all this weekend, so I plan on taking it back with me to Indiana on sunday.

Anyone know if that's illegal? I know indiana has some very strict laws on that sort of thing and I'd rather not have to deal with an arrest over something that stupid.

It probably is illegal, but you'd have to get stopped AND searched to get caught. I think you can handle not getting searched even if you get pulled over...

Yeah, I figured I'd let it ride in the trunk . I rarely see cops on my route home (knocks on wood) but it never hurts to be cautious.

IIRC it's only illegal if you are transporting it for the purpose of selling it. If it's for personal use then I'm pretty sure that it's legal. If it's not then my family's got trouble. We go up to a cottage in Michigan every summer and my dad always brings along some beer from our house in Ohio, and we usually end up bringing some left-over beer back into Ohio from Michigan.

I know it is in a lot of states. Just put it in your trunk and obey all laws.

I think the tax in indiana is cheaper then it is in ohio, so I think the state boys get upset with people come to indy and take it back to ohio. But since I'm going the other way, I wouldn't think they'd care.

Frikken unmarked cars scare me though in indy . I get on 30 and it's easy to be going 65 and not notice it

Legal or illegal. (It should be legal as it's for personal consumption) Cops are not going to search your trunk. Even if they did, they aren't going to bother with it unless you have a few cases of hard liquor with no "tax stamps" on them.

Only on Sunday, and even that is only in some states (Tennessee, or so the cop who pulled us over told my dad.)

You have to put it in the trunk. I don't think you can even have sealed bottles of alcohol in the front seat now. If doubt its illegal to cross state lines, plent of people from NY go to NJ to get alcohol i.e. Bayonne and Perth Amboy...

Just make sure its out of reach (TRUNK) and you should be ok since you're 21 and you should be fine since its for personal use.

Now, if my family picked up booze across state lines to sell here in FL, we'd be in deeep kimshi.

Each state is unique (21 is a state, not fed law) as each regulates (read: TAXES!!!!!) alcohol differently, so when you buy out of state with intent to resell you are "defrauding" the state of rightful revenue.

Naturally, I've considered it before but mom and dad valued their license and clean criminal record more than some $.
