Default Woohoo! Cowboy Bebop English Dub Movie Premiere At BAAF

Copied from the Anime News Network:

Cowboy Bebop English Dub Movie Premiere At BAAF

BIG APPLE ANIME FEST 2002 HOSTS ENGLISH LANGUAGE WORLD PREMIERE OF
COLUMBIA/TRI-STAR'S "COWBOY BEBOP: THE MOVIE"

Much Anticipated Film Debuts August 30th With Widely Popular Original
English Voice Cast

New York, NY - The Big Apple Anime Fest 2002 (BAAF 2002) is proud to
announce that the festival will premiere the theatrical English dub
version of "Cowboy Bebop: The Movie" on August 30th, 8:00pm at Loews
State Theater (Virgin Megastore) in New York City's Times Square. At the
premiere, Cowboy Bebop director, Shinichiro Watanabe, score composer,
Yoko Kanno and character designer Toshihiro Kawamoto will be on hand to
meet their legions of fans. Cowboy Bebop is also currently an enormously
popular animated TV show, currently seen in the U.S. on Cartoon Network.
The show, which fuses compelling sci-fi elements with an amazing
soundtrack, has been called one of the greatest Japanese animeimports
ever. Cowboy Bebop fans have not only been eagerly anticipating the
movie, but they also successfully lobbied to make sure that film included
the original English-language voices they have come to know and love.
Cowboy Bebop is scheduled for release by Columbia-TriStar Pictures in
early 2003.

Cowboy Bebop takes place in outer space during the year 2071. Spike
Spiegel, a former gangster and Jett Black, a former cop are a bounty
hunting team who chase down the galaxy's toughest criminals for the price
on their heads. Throughout their action-packed adventures, they are
joined by Faye Valentine, a cool, confident, sexy gambler and Ed, a
brilliant, teenage computer hacker. David Lucas is the voice of Spike
Spiegel, Wendee Lee is Faye Valentine and Beau Billingsley is Jett Black.

Ryoko Maebayashi, Big Apple Anime Fest Coordinator, says she is thrilled
to premiere Cowboy Bebop: The Movie at the 2002 festival. "Cowboy Bebop
is one of the greatest anime shows to come out of Japan. The English
language version will be a true event and we are proud that fans will be
able to see this film first at BAAF 2002."

The Big Apple Anime Fest, a weekend long celebration of anime manga
culture, will launch its 2002 event on Friday, August 30th 2002 and
continue until Monday, September 2nd 2002 (Labor Day Weekend) in New York
City. The events will be centered around and in New York City's Times
Square.

This year's event is expected to be the largest celebration of anime in
the United States. The event includes film screenings, video screening
rooms, autograph sessions with renowned anime directors and voiceover
artists, masquerade events, and more.

Now I wish they would do something similar in the West Coast.
And I also wish both versions (sub and dub) of the movie get shown here in theaters.

I am tainted by the Japanese voices.. the English ones annoy me.

But.. it's an awesome movie for my favorite anime series of all time. I will have to watch it anyway.

Well, you gotta give praises to the translator(s) and the dub casts. They raised the dub bar higher. I think a lot of anime fans uses CB as THE example of a good dub.
It also gives non-anime fans a true taste of what anime is all about.

Just take a look at the Cowboy Bebop TV review from a non-anime fan:
TeeVee - Anime for the Rest of Us

Now I just hope that they don't make a 2nd season for the CB TV series (because of the ending), instead give us great movies.

But if even one of you starts whining about how Bebop is getting popular with sullied masses and ruining the pristine sanctity of your fandom, I'm seriously going to go to that basement you're living in and stomp on each and every one of your imported model kits. And not even the sight of you in a poorly-fitting homemade costume will stop me.
Hahahahahaha.

So true.

Good show though... I really enjoyed it and look forward to the movie.

I still think they should have used the original movie title "Cowboy Bebop: Knockin' on Heaven's Door" instead of just "Cowboy Bebop: The Movie".

AT LAST!!!!!
Thanks for posting this news.
Been waiting a LONG time for an "official" (non-bootleg) release.

And I personally think the CB Original Session English dubs are of groundbreaking quality.

Check my sig too, if any of you have any doubts about how much of a CB fan I am...

Oh I am sure they will show it in North Cal. The question is how limited the release its gonna be? Just S.F.? or more.

Now I want to know if they will have a equivalent premiere here (West Coast/L.A.)? with the director, composer, designer, and US VA. If they are, you bet I will be there.

I like both. I listens to the English track when I am working on something else (not requiring to glue to the screen and read the subtitle). When I show it to non-anime fans (like my sisters), I also use the English track to hook them. A good English dub can bring/convert more people into anime.

Never seen the dub, but Cowboy Bebop is a great series and movie. I was turned off simply by the funny name like most people as I'm not a hardcore anime fan, but I sat myself one day and watched and it was well worth it. The movie is actually quite good, unlike most anime where the movies seem to be a bit awkward or simply suck.
