Default How long can a refrigerator stay unplugged before going bad?

I want to store a mini-fridge in a storage facility for the summer. Will it be good for four months?

It turns into a bomb after exactly 42 days unplugged.

If it's good now, it should be good for years.

The fridge won't go bad but the food in it might spoil.

It's fine to store it. Just make sure you clean it out real good before storing it (don't leave any water in there).

The seals* in them can dry out and begin to rot affecting how well it works once it's brought back into use.

*These seals aren't the clubbing kind.

Leave it unplugged as long as you like. The secret is making sure that it doesn't get in with the wrong crowd.

Well, is there any cash missing from your wallet? That would be a tell-tale sign.

A fridge can sit unplugged for 42 days without going bad. I know this because I have left a fridge unplugged for much longer without it going bad. When you return your fridge to service wait 24 hours after moving it to plug it back in. The stuff that makes a fridge cold needs time to settle before it will work properly.

Uh, unplug it, clean it thoroughly, and make 100% sure that the door will stay propped open all summer.

this X -145^22

i had one stored on my back porch and finally gave it to the in laws when their soda fridge stopped working. didnt smell at all after 9 months of sitting there. on the other hand, my ex's friend decided to move her second fridge into the storage closet on her porch. asked me to move it back into her house for her, but i ended up putting it on the curb because she decided it wasnt worth it to clean out the fridge. she took the food out, but didnt clean it. that smell never goes away. the freezer mildewed from the moisture left in there, the food remnants in the fridge part molded and stank.
