Throttle Steam download speed

Is there a way to set a cap for Steam's download speed? I want it to go down to like 20KB/s instead of attempting to suck up every last little bit possible.

I see some conflicting info out there as to what port it uses, one says 60660 and another says 27000-27050. find the ports it's using and if you router supports it QoS it

In steam settings, you can select connection speed, which should throttle d/l speed.

I am confused as to why you'd want to limit the download rate to 20Kb/s. Either your Steam games are tiny or you are a really really patient man. M2TW at 20Kb/s would take weeks to download. Just start the Steam download before bed time or before you leave for work.

maybe his max speed is 40KB/s that would certainly make sense then, but otherwise I agree...if you have a decent broad bandwidth connection, just let it do its thing. Unless you're planning to purchase and download ever single piece of software available through Steam, this shouldn't be a problem.

I don't think there is. Netlimiter 2 can do this for you, as well as keep stats of how much you download. Good for people who have monthly caps on their bandwidth.

I've used Netlimiter in the past, you can set upload and download caps on individual processes and active programs.
