Tempting price...

Any idea about the following:

*viewing angles say 178, I assume MVA panel (IIRC, that is what is used on 30"+ TVs?)?
*The static (non-dynamic) contrast ratio?
*input lag?
*Use as a gaming monitor for a PC?

same as they have in their BF ad, not enough to wait in line for, but worth considering now.

i was really tempted on this deal, but since any store in my state is saying approx. 9-13 days for in store pick up coupled with sales tax.

huge deal breaker. had sears had these in the store to pick up today, it might have made me a sears customer for the first time in....

i honestly don't know the last time i made a purchase at sears.

oh well. sucks for sears.

What do you think of that deal with the 10% off w/Sears card? I'm tempted..I wanted a 42" originally, but a 40" might be just fine.

Moved from the Fry's thread.

How do we get the 10% off? Do i have to open the sears card at the store or can it be pre-order it and picked it up alter. With 10%, the price would be $720.. pretty blazzing hot.

I think you have to buy it in-store for the 10% off. here

If I recall correctly, I opened an account in the store to get 10% off on a riding lawn mower, but I don't know if you can still do it right then and there.

I have also used the 10% off an in-store purchase to get an item that was OOS and had to be ordered in the store for a future pick-up date.

Last time I talked to a Sears employee, they said that those deals were available for those who opened or already had a Sears card- no new account required. I don't know if it's available online or not...I might swing by my local store tomorrow and see if they have one on display.

A 40" 1080P for $720 without dealing with Black Friday crowds is tempting...but I'd be disappointed if the prices tanked and I spend $200 more than I needed to..

The 10% off link doesn't show the TV for $800- just a bunch of other ones...I'll have to stop in and see if it'll work.

FYI- sign up for the email newsletter and get a $5-off-$50 coupon.

The link says ''10% instant savings on any 40 in. Class HDTV or larger with your Sears card. Instant savings in-store only."

The ad says "10% instant savings... on HDTVs 40" and larger" "Instant savings offer applies to purchases of HDTVs 40" and larger and is calculated on purchase price of items less all coupons, discounts and reward certificates, not including tax, installation or delivery. Offer good thru November 1, 2008."

Thanks! Do you think I'll be able to find much better on BF (Staples, WalMart or BB, anyway..not much else is local)? I saw the Sears BF ad and wasn't very impressed.

With the $5 newsletter coupon, we'd be looking at $714.99 + tax (none in NH).

a 10% discount on an item you purchase in-store that the store doesn't have?

how did you ask for / get this?

is there a link to the policy so i can print it out to take to the store?

Not to confuse anyone, but on the link for this TV it says "Buy an HDTV and save 10% on HDTV accessories. Offer ends 15-Nov-2008 " .

Here is the link for the 10% off any HDTV 40" or larger with a sears card by mail. Offer ends 11/15

Bestbuy refused pricematch in case anyone is gonna try, model number is different.

Link to a sears card https://www.accountonline.com/...langId=EN&siteId=SEARS">application</a> and there insane interest rate of 21.5% APR

The TV sears is selling is equivilent to Samsung model #LN40A530 that can be seen here. The deal at frys is model #LN40A550 that can be seen here.. Hope this helps. People who work at sears are very confusing.

They advertised one tv. They were out of it. They offered to substitute another. Turns out they didn't have that one in stock either, but could get it. I paid for the tv, waited until it arrived and picked it up. I would imagine that any item they normally carry but are out of could be paid for and picked up when it got in in the same way.

I don't know where the mistake lies. If we believe the Sears site and the Fry's site descriptions and specs, then both seem to be selling the same tv. If we believe Amazon's description and specs, then the Sears description and specs are wrong. I give up.

k

i went to a local sears store and the salesman was kind of confused about the model # as well.

he said its a '500' series, which he said had identical specs to the 550 they had on the floor, he could have been confused though..

So, he said it would be available to pick up on the 4th, which i asked if there was a discount for it being out of stock here & having to wait. he said no, its just like ordering from amazon or somewhere else and since its a web-only deal.

I don't know how much leverage they have but if i decide to go back, i might try & give them the 'hard buy', you know if its the 'same' as amazon, i might just take my business there, what incentives do i have from buying here...etc...
worth a shot, i guess.

i also asked if since this TV is 39.9 inches if it really qualifies for the 40" or larger 10% off deal and he assured me it will (even though the tag wasn't there, like on the bigger TVs)

In case everyone isn't confused enough, the link above for the 10% off by mail is for sears. com purchases only. The link I posted earlier says that, if you purchase in-store with your Sears card, you get the 10% off instantly. I just don't know if they have this model in-store or if they have it in-store for the $799.99 price. Looks like, from G Wizard's post, that you can get the 10% off one way or another.

yes, he said at first it was a web-only deal when i showed him the printout from the above link and i said, well can you use the website or just order it for me here in-store?

we went to the computer and he said he could order it and it showed up 799.99, so the 10% discount should work since youre physically at the store...I also asked if you needed to be an existing card holder for the instant 10% off, he said no, you can use a new card...

still, even though he said yes to both questions, i'm usually really skeptical about these things. I might go to another Sears location and ask the same questions later this evening and see what they've gotta say.

that manufacturer model number doesn't exist on samsung's site. maybe a model made specifically for walmart / sears type discount stores?
