If you kept it, what would Madeline Ray think of that?

I'd calculate the cost to return it, with my time valued at $400/hr, and estimating the number of emails and phone calls required. If my time is worth 50% of the value of the item, or greater, I'll just keep it.

If my time is worth less than 50% of the value of the item, I'll also keep it, because an item that valuable shouldn't be trusted in the wrong hands.

I'd contact them and offer for them to pick it up / provide a label.

I'd contact them and inquire about it, but I would not pay myself to ship it back.

Depends on what it is. A cheap item I'd just keep. Actually, once, I did. They sent a drive out, and I ended up with one on time, put into service, and all was dandy. Then, about a week later, another one came. Same tracking #, invoice, etc., and the tracking appeared like it never existed for the first one.

In the i7 case that I assume inspired the thread, I'd contact them about it. $46 out of a >$3,000 order, I couldn't worry myself over. It would probably cost them as much as the item over again just to get it back, anyway. But, a CPU in a cheap kit worth more than the whole order...I couldn't do that.

I'd send it back if they pay the shipping. I can mostly buy the stuff I want anyway. No need to involve myself in things of questionable legality.

This I'd also ask if I can just keep it to save trouble on both parties but that if they want it back then please send a label or arrange to send it COD. Basically I'd be willing to send it back, but not willing to pay shipping.

Ived refused packages sent to my address but not addressed to my wife or I. For packages that I can't refuse...well it's not happened yet, but if it did, I would I for, the company and let them take care of it.

I had a newegg order go to the wrong house before. The address was right, was on the same stretch of road but mine was rural and theirs was urban side of the line. They were very nice and looked me up in the book to call me and tell me they had my package. Otherwise, i'd likely have to fight with FedEx, not sure how well that could end, they could just say it was delivered to my door and sorry it got stolen? Hopefully i'll never have to deal with that.

Six years ago I ordered a LCD monitor, printer and dvd player from Newegg as part of a Black Friday deal. They accidentally shipped two monitors and I didn't notice until the UPS guy left. I emailed Newegg customer service and never received a response. After about 2 months of sitting unopened, I decided to use it.

Shipping companies need to start scanning a drivers license or equivalent ID to receive packages if the customer is willing to pay for such service. It would end a lot of headaches for people that live in crowded cities where a misdelivery or other shenanigans are common.

A long time ago, I had ordered something I don't remember what or from where but when the UPS guy delivered the package, he also dropped one(it was small) from his cart. I didn't notice either until I left to go out and saw it sitting on the ground. I took it in, called UPS and told them about it, the UPS guy came back the next day and got it back.

That's the only time something was "mis-delivered" to me if you call it that. Now if it was a package that was delivered directly to me(as me being the recipient) I might have kept it. It's hard to do the right thing when presented with such situations.

I wouldn't go out of my way to return it...but I WOULD contact the seller and let them know about it. IF they want to provide a return shipping label and have the item picked up at MY convenience...great. Otherwise, I'm not gonna drive across town to the UPS store to do them the favor.

On Amazon pricepros had a RAM sale and I spent $50 on it. They sent everyone who did a 'ninja halloween costume' in stead.

This was quickly noticed by people but they kept on doing it.

Then I had a big costume-size box arrive.

I didn't open it, but I also told them as far as I'm concerned when they send the wrong thing, that's their problem - I could keep it and get a refund. They wanted me to print a label and drive it to a Fedex to send back. I told them if they mailed me a label (no printer set up) and arranged a pickup, I'd return it. They said they would. They did send a label, but it took months to get a pickup scheduled. I tried to call them and was on hold for mintutes before hanging up.

It wasn't very impressive how they did it in that a legimate error should have had the option for them to send the correct item - they wouldn't do that. And Amazon wasn't all that helpful. When Pricepros was saying 'sorry, item not returned, so no refund', I made it clear to Amazon I'd reverse the charge and they did get them to contact me - but Amazon would not refund the purchase with the wrong item sent until it was returned.

Finally, it was picked up and returned and refunded. I think I could have reversed the charge and kept the item, but wanted to return it, but way too much hassle.

Flip side: Newegg double charged me a while back. For fun, I waited two weeks to see if they would correct their error without being prompted. They did not. I had to call them.

Newegg, Amazon, or Staples? Contact them. They've always treated me well.

Best Buy, Office Max, or Office Depot? Fuck 'em.

I'd return it and wouldn't even think twice about it, assuming they are paying for return shipping.
