Default Easy way for allowing mom to shrink canon avi files from her powershot?

I can't even remember exactly which camera she has but I talked my entire extended family into Canons a long time ago.

As anyone who has a Canon knows their video files are these monstrosit AVI files. I usually don't do much except maybe upload to YouTube when I share, that way there aren't these massive attachments anyway but I also know I can convert videos myself if I want.

However, for mom, it's always a 20mb email attachment coming down the pipe to a half dozen recipients and sometimes the files are too large and she can't send them at all. I would like to find a way for her to EASILY shrink them.

Any suggestions?

Ya, I thout about that, though I'd have to set it up for her and make it reeeeally fool proof.

I recall (years ago) somebody had set up something on their desktop where you could literally drag the icon of the avi file to an icon on the desktop and it literally converted (mpeg or mov or something) and stored the file all in one fell swoop. I think I figured out they did quite a bit of work to make it so but I wish there was a program readily available like that.

Then again, I wish canon would have just chosen a smaller and more easily handled file format out of the box.

Why did you convince everybody to buy Canons?

LOL... Maybe for the same reason I like Canon - their color palette, unique features (i.e. swivel screens) and general design?

But that's not a serious question... is it?
