Default Beta-Brite

I came across a Beta Brite EZ Key 2 Sign.
When I power it up it beeps then e.displays 1026-4001e
then it wont do anything else. I got the remote for it but it wont go into program mode or anything. Yes i put new batteries in it the remote.

Then i seen were there is access panel on back of sign to communicate with pc. Do i need a special cable to do this and since sign is from 1995 is it still pc compatible.

Is the sign stuck in a mode were it needs re-programed or something .
Or am i out of luck?

I know the 1026-4001e is firmware for the sign.

Any help is greatly appreciated good or bad news. Hopefully someone can help me get it going.
Thanks for the time and any info.
email me or reply here.
Thanks
