Red Dawn remake trailer
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UoqlBHSePw0
Apparently North Korea (fucking North Korea!) overwhelms America's defenses by taking out Central Command , the command charged with the Middle East and North Africa. I also want to know how North Korea got all those planes and the ability to project power all the way across the Pacific. At least with Russia it was believable.
This remake just seems laughably stupid, and I hope it bombs like the Total Recall remake.

North Korea as a invading force makes no sense, not unless it is set in a parallel universe or some weird future. China makes a lot more sense, even if that is too common a theme.
EDIT: Not having seen the original Red Dawn, I looked it up and see now that it was set in an alternate timeline. North Korea still seems like a stupid choice, though.

It was supposed to be China originally IIRC, but they changed to NK so they could release the film in China and not have it bomb. I guess the Chinese film market is quite lucrative.

Someone from China has some sort of ownership involvement in the production, or in the owning company now, so they switched everything from China to North Korea. Part of the reason it took almost three years to get a release date.

Meh, I'll see it. IIRC, the original enemy was supposed to be China, but they changed it to NK so that Chinese audiences would watch it.
I am a little irritated that they moved the story to Washington.

Even with China it's not believable. They have the manpower, but no ability to project it beyond their own borders. Russia at the time of the original Red Dawn was a semi-believable scenario. In the world today there's no country that could be a realistic enemy. Maybe if China and Russia teamed up they could do it. North Korea is just silly.

NK has the manpower, but zero ability to move them anywhere. At least China could afford to build/acquire a bunch of cargo planes etc., to get their troops over here. Would have been WAAAYYY more believable, at least. Changing it was stupid, but NK is one of the few remaining "bad guys" with a decent army so probably the only other choice.

The original is awesome. Was believable in its time. This remake sounds like a bad joke gone wrong from all angles. I'll probably watch it as a $5 BR.

So this is Prophets backstory before the nanosuit?
For a second there I thought it was a Mod call out thread!

The original was high concept but disappointing execution (acting and directing). I wanted to like it more. I'll give this one a chance.

I watched the original on TV when I was 12. At the time I thought it was an entertaining movie with some deep ideas. Had a chance to re-watch it last year and thought it was one of the dumbest films ever made.
The remake will be just as stupid but, probably packed with action and explosions. If you enjoy seeing gunfights and things blowing up while discounting the lack of a believable story then you'll probably enjoy this. If you're the type to get into a movie and over analyze plot then it will suck.

The original was a portrayal of [edit]guerrilla[/edit] warfare set in the most unlikely of places - the center of the United States. It was still silly in its execution. Remember that in the original it was the cubans - not the Russians - who launched a sneak attack and managed to land their forces in the plains of the central US. Just as laughable as the North Koreans parachuting into Washington.

I have an idea for a movie.
It's about a spacetug refinery crew awaykened from frozen sleep to investigate a distress signal on a plantetoid
Only when they do they come across a terrifying life form.
the twist is that the distress signal was actually a warning and that the company that owns the spacetug knew it was a warning but sent the crew there anyway to perhaps obtain a new bioweapon.

The Mod is gone. I heard he went to North Korea and is building an army.

Plot synopsis: A band of American high school age terrorists struggle to annoy occupying North Korean Freedom Bringers.
I remember loving that movie as a kid.

They'll stop when enough people stop going to watch these remakes.
Hollywood is business and remakes = the security of guaranteed cash for them. Even if the movie is a critical flop, it will still pull in revenue because of name recognition. Hollywood plays it safe capitalizing on remakes and they are happy to do it.
