You might say "Wrong, there's no way my head and body jerk around that much when moving in real life", but in reality, that's actually what happens (of course you're so used to it that you never think about it).

For example, in Day Z, just be in regular standing position, and hold (or double-tap) Shift to walk. It seems SSLLLOWWW, but no, that's about average walking pace in real life. It makes you realize just how unnaturally-fast the movement is in most other games.

It feels weird at first, yes; but to believe that in real life we fluidly hover around, heads completely fixed in position, and can stop and turn on a dime - similar to CoD - is a bit silly.

Edit: I think you can turn off head-bob actually
i know their completely different games.

i don't have problems walking through doors irl yet i constantly get stuck in doors in game.

i can crawl through an open doorway in irl, not in game.

i can't open a door when prone irl, but i can in game.

i'm just saying the game would be 10x better if it had a better engine.

You should watch some Arma 3 videos, if dayz is coming out for that on day 1 i'm getting that.

Has vast improvements. Its amazing what physics and better lighting can do for a game.

This is one of the few games where you don't need to max out the graphics to be completely immersed in. Which is weird, especially coming from a person like me who insists on being able to play every game on Ultra.

With Day Z, I just have no desire to crank up the graphics whatsoever.
The game runs fine with postprocessing enabled, and some other features enabled as well....get the best of both worlds....I have been playing with postprocessing and the frames and gameplay is very smooth.

Is there a way to see what servers people are playing on in steam? I saw Mclovin was in a game last night, but was unable to find what server he was on.

He's active in Steam chat, so just drop him a quick message. That's what I've done the past few nights. We've generally been playing on the Dallas servers that have inverse day/night.

I find that the post processing in Arma 2 makes the game a blurry mess. I also find that high levels of AA turn the grass and trees white for some reason. I need to experiment with MLAA or FXAA in the drivers to see if I can smooth out the jaggies some.

Raided the 2 norther airstrips for the first time last night. Pretty disappointing. Got an AKM with one magazine and a glock 17 with 2 magazines. Kinda regret trading my winchester with 9 magazines for the AKM. The winchester is a zombie wrecking machine.

The other weird thing about the northwest airfield is that the zombies are hyper aware for some reason. I went in to the NW airfield with 40 zombie kills and left with 180. Had some strange glitches in the hangars too where zombies spawned behind me inside the hangar.

A friend got in the server with me and made it all the way to the town to the southwest of the north east airfield with me when a zombie hit him throught he wall and knocked him out. Then about 15 of them came and ate him lol.

Next time I get back on I'm going to check the NW airfield again which is where I logged out and then head down to cherno to check for weapons in town because I wasn't impressed with what was at the airfield.

A great idea for an endgame scenario would be to have to find and repair a crashed chopper to escape the island. But make the parts and stuff super rare. Like one piece in each town or something like that. Could be really fun and the PvP implications to find parts would be really amazing. It's so nerve wracking when you are in an area and you hear gunshots nearby. The atmosphere in this game can't be matched, and it totally makes up for the strangeness of the Arma 2 engine.

i'm thinking about giving up on it until they fix it. tired of waiting an hour to get into a server to play. spend more time logging in than playing.

this is ridiculous.

1. debug forest
2. no gear/no hud
3. everything looks fine but can't move...
4. debug forest
5. inverse day

took me like 10 minutes each attempt.

whats really weird is that i have logged into some servers immediately and others take forever, and then if i go back to a "good" server, it takes forever to log in again.
are there any ports to forward for ARMA2 and this mod? Seems like I get a lot of link broken indicators even though I have really good ping to the servers.

sigh...

How the hell do you find inverse time servers. I'm too inexperienced for night.

as far as I know, randomly connect. when you find one, write down the server name and keep a list.

not always going to be exactly inverse either. apparently game time is different than real time. like it might be 8:00 PM EST but in game time, it's only 4:00 PM EST, so you may have some overlap.

My experience is pretty much the same. Sometimes I can get into the game easily on a server with 49/50 players. Other times, I'm waiting for 10+ mins on servers that only have 10/50 players.

Maybe there's a reason there are only 10 players connected to that server.

Never had the connection issues you guys have. I do wait sometimes for servers, but its just that server and reconnect to another takes around 3-5min.

btw this game does support FXAA, i think last arma patch put it in. Looks pretty decent.

It is getting tougher and tougher to get in a server.

I have had my character for about a week now, without dying.

Just strooling along by myself...trying to survive.

I have finally found a hunting knife, firewood and matches....my blood is at 6500....so next session I am going to try to get some meat in me...that will get my blood back to 9500.

Also I finally found a watch and compass.

The atmosphere of this game is off the hook...especially when you hear alot of gun fire and you are by yourself.

I finally made it to the main airfield and was lying prone just watching the action take place,,,,a pretty large group of bandits were there so I decided to stay away...but watching was quite fun and I know I could have wasted a couple of them, but someone would have killed me...so I decided to survive.

yeah, i have a prtty decent amount of gear myself now. up up on the NE coastal area somewhere. Avoiding the big towns this time. I have a ton a canned food, 2 sodas, a water bottle, 1866 with like about 90 rounds, a mak with about 4 mags, a watch, a compass, matches, and firewood, plus some flares, and bandages, etc.

haven't had much luck finding other stuff lately though.

I started over next to a big town crawled into a school and hit the motherload, picked up 4 canteens, 13 mags of ammo, and the Lee rifle it does a 1 hit kill but pretty much gets everything in the areas attention. I guess it would be best to go into a building fire it and head shot everything that came in the door with the pistol.

sounds like you're in elektro.

new update out there too. seems a lot of servers are not up to date and the ones that are are always full.
even servers that say they are on the latest version give me an error that says the server side is not on the correct version.

finally got logged in earlier after having a ton of trouble. slow crouch walked out a barn door and passed out and died.

no gunshots, no other players that I could see, nothing. sucked because i had a decent bit of gear. weapons and ammo were running low though.

something else i found thats pretty shitty is you can only use ammo if it's in the correct clip/mag for that gun. .45 acp comes in mags and speed loaders (for revolvers). Even thought my 1911 uses .45 acp, because it wasn't in a mag, i couldn't use it.

I understand why it's done this way. the game is supposed to be realistc, you aren't going to want to refill a mag during combat, but its frustrating to see that ammo lying there and you can't use it.

started another game and decided to mess around a bit, see how some things worked. messed with some zombies, running around them, shooting, etc. ended up in a town and had a mak and enfield. a hopper caught sight of me or heard me somehow, not sure how. i ran to this little shed thing and started getting hit from behind. goddamn zombie came through the wall! took him out and killed some more at the door but then i got swarmed by like 4 that came through the wall. so unfair, lol

If you are crawling how close can you get to a zombie without being attacked? It seems like you are almost invisible if you are crawling, can anyone confirm this?

3 meters (or about 10 feet) is generally the closest you should ever get to another zombie while crawling. That's even overshooting it by a little (better be safe than sorry). You're right; crawling makes you pretty much invisible, unless you basically get right up to the zombs.

Did you guys know you can download beta arma 2 patches that fix lots/adds lots of stuff to game and won't effect dayz mod? Just found out that they had quite a few beta patches for it.

http://www.arma2.com/beta-patch.php

in two weeks they already have had 2 patches. Did not know this till now, fixes tons of little things each one.

I think the beta patches limit the number of servers you can get into though.
