Default Looking for a Foxbody Mustang GT. How much are they worth?

The Camaro restore thread has me itching to start a project car of my own. Whats a good price to pay for a late 80's early 90's foxbody? There are a few local over 5-6K and IMO thats way to much. Whats a good price and what should i be looking for? Should i look younger and SN95? The 94-95 mustang GT's are a few grand cheaper then the foxbody's in my area.

For power goals i'd like 500 hp with a blower.

Speaking from experience, a few extra $k is worth it if the car has a clean, solid, chassis and running gear.

I think the fox body mustangs are super popular with the racing crowd, so you might be paying a 'popularity' tax on it. I don't know if the next generation is inherently better or worse though...

Find someone who loved their car more than money - BUY that one.

parts and labor are not cheap, find someone who tastefully modded their ride with top quality parts.

Unless you have a hard-on for sinking money & time into a ride to make it all your own - then go that route.

Budget $4-6K to get a nice 5.0 GT Fox. More for the specials like the 7-Up, Coupes, or Cobra's. I do admit, I like the '95 Cobra 5.0 quite a lot but nothing will turn a head more than a clean 5.0 Fox.

if you have the cash, there is always the rare Cobra or Saleen Fox body's.

What you want is a 5.0l notchback LX but they are worth even more than the GTs. I don't like the hatchback . You also want an 89-92. They have the best of everything and the 93s switched from forged to hypereutectic pistons. Been awhile since I was in a fox so I haven't kept up on their prices but they were fairly high 6 years ago when I sold my 89 notch.

Another option entirely, but on the same path as 'thedarkwolf' is going, is to get a 4-banger Mustang from that era and put a crate 5.0 in it, along with new motor mounts, crate tranny, new brakes, new wiring harness, new rear end, and various other small odds and ends. It adds up, but if you shop mustang forums, craigslist, etc, you can find a lot of deals on the parts you need. If you really want 500hp in a pretty reliable setup, pretty much a stripdown and rebuild with solid parts is the way to go.

This is a list that a guy came up with, but if you start out with a $500 car and get good deals on parts and do your own labor, you can have a lot of fun and create your own monster.

You should go the Farm Truck route.

I want a notch. Minimum $5K for a halfway clean example around here. Sucks.

If I recall correctly, I paid $4823.36 (which included taxes & fees) for my 1986 GT hatchback.... in 1991.

Have wanted one since I was 14. Just never wanted to take on that kinda money pit after owning a 65 mustang I sunk tons of money into and it was never really right.
Nothing cooler than a mean sounding foxbody rolling down the street.

Yeah, when I was 16 my parents bought me a 89 Corsica for $5k. They told me there was a 5.0 on the lot for the same price, but they thought I might kill myself. Probably right, as I knocked down a light pole and ended up in a ditch racing my Rabbit. But I always remember that I could have had a 5.0...in high school.

5K for a clean car sounds fair. and I agree with Fmr12b, find the guy that loved his car, and doesnt want to sell it, but has too.
They are getting to that age where they really wont depreciate much more (especially if kept in nice condition), and may actually go up in value over the next few years (nostalgia, ftw!).

though kinda hoping the next mustang is close in proportion to the audi A5. mustang has a bigger motor but no awd parts up front.

The SN95 cars are nicer street rigs I've built and driven about 4-5 mustangs all with the 5.0 used to have a boss that kept having me do work to them. Interior is way more comfortable in the 94-95 cars and about 97% of the fox body stuff works so go fast bits are cheap. And exhaust go long tubes with shorty h-pipe and a Mac catback such an awesome exhaust....

Expect to pay $5k plus for a clean stock one.

My brother is selling his 88 GT right now for 8k, it has less than 200,000kms on the chassis. Less than 10,000kms on the trans(under warranty till 60,000kms), and less than 30,000kms on the motor. Motor is built up to around 350hp at the wheels. Has full aftermarket SS exhaust from the headers back. Car is lowered 1" and all suspension components/bushings/springs are new within last 10,000kms.

I recently sold mine for $1600, blown head gasket that wasn't worth my time. It was a V6 roller.

I'm all for nostalgia but it looks like clean foxbodies are going for 5-8k around here. Wouldn't it be better to spend 8k on a 2000ish mustang gt instead?

Really depends on what you want at the end. The 4.6 isnt a bad engine and can easily get you a decently fast car. Its a bit easier to get power from the 5.0 and much cheaper.

Nostalgia goes a long way to most buyers. Drop in some vanilla ice and roll in your 5.0

They are expensive because they can be made fast for fairly cheap. I went with my roommate and his family to the track this weekend for a MOM's (Mustang on Mustang) Racing event. His brother has a low 10-second fox, needs larger injectors before the next race. Video of the 10.32 run below...

Guys what would a 88 gt with a built 351 and a hellion turbo kit go for? Friend of mine knows an older guy selling it for 15K which sounds way to damn much. How much power would a car with that combo put down? 600rwhp?

Out of curiosity, if its Mustang on Mustang, what was the Nova doing there after your roommates race?

Any idea which turbo? Could be 400whp, could be 800whp.
