Full disclosure: I'm a Devils fan so I hate the Rangers, but since the goal didn't affect the outcome of the game I don't have much reason to be biased here.
One thing that I noticed is that his skate ended up almost in front of the puck on the follow-through. That's almost impossible if he kicked the side of the puck. It'd be possible if his foot came down on top of the puck, but Lundqvist's stick was partially covering it.
His skate might have hit the puck, or it might have hit Lundqvist's stick. I didn't see a camera angle that gave clear and convincing evidence either way, and I think that's why they went with the call on the ice. Not enough evidence to overturn.
Rangers fans are flipping out though. They already think the league is out to get them, this is just more fuel for the fire.

Hawks are absolutely dominating here yet have nothing to show for it. Reminds me a lot of Preds/Wings Game 4 thus far. (although this is even more lopsided)

And just like that, total domination by the Hawks turns into a 1-0 lead for the Coyotes.

Was anyone watching the Comcast Chicago sportsnet channel intermission? I walked back in to the room when they were doing the "shoot the puck thing", and some really hot blond with big knockers was taking shots.
They were concentrating on the two celebs (Frank Thomas and Brian Dennehy) and they never said who it was. Was that chick just a random girl from the stands? She was smokin' hot.
Oh, and - yeah, it sucks that the Hawks dominated and are trailing.

Well I guess that's that. Anyone know when the Preds/Coyotes play game 1?

LETS GO PREDS! Yotes better hope Mike Smith stands on his head for the rest of the playoffs, because they don't stand a chance otherwise.

Some team with more than two cent heads will make Smith look stoopid. He was going down early on almost every shot and the Hawks kept shooting it into his pads.
I like coach Q, and I'm glad he got his cup, but this year was pretty unacceptable (especially the power play). I say he gets one more year and Bowman brings up all that talent he was unwilling to trade for real NHLers, and make a decision after next year.

Yeah the power play this year was unreal. I couldn't believe how much it hurt the Hawks to be on the power play. I almost wish we could turn down the penalties.
Q deserves another year or 2. This is the first year they have had to play with cap space since winnings. I'm interested to see who comes up and who they sign in the off-season. Next year will be very telling. Overall I am pleased enough to not be pissed off, but if there is no improvement I expect that coaching changes will happen sooner rather than later.

It isn't that easy man, sometimes a goalie just is that good. Considering the Hawks firepower, they just got beat by Smith. Simple as that

Pretty sure the mods would sticky it if someone asks.
They stickied it in past years.

Although I can't see why anyone would be intereted in Luongo's contact, if anyone is it has to be Tampa Bay.
No way in hell NJ goes after him

It's not that bad of a contract from what I understand. It's a 5.3 hit which is on the lower end for elite goaltenders. He also has an opt out in the 2013-14 season. So in theory a team only has to commit for 2 years.

These playoffs are totally whacked out. I know the top picked teams shouldn't necessarily be guaranteed to win, but really, some weird shit going on with these pairings.
As long as Boston gets knocked out, I don't give a shit who wins this year.

5.3 is the cap hit, the actual amount of money is 6.7 for the next 4 years or more. He made 10 this year
There are only a couple other goalies that make anywhere close to that. Bryzgolov, who has a terrible contract but is structured the same way making 10 now and less as it goes on. Lundquist who is well deserving and thats it
Most of the good teams do not pay stupid money for a goalie because its stupid to do so

Pretty sure there is no such thing as an opt-out in NHL contracts. I think someone here said he just has a change in his NTC/NMC that would allow a team to trade him in 2 years. They'd still need to find someone to take his contract, which is the same problem Vancouver has.
Realistically, a NTC is just a way for a player to dictate who he can be traded to. Most players will waive it if they're being traded to a team they'd want to play for.

Factoid I heard on the radio today: Of the 45 top scorers in the West only one still remains in the playoffs, Kopitar of LA
Maybe spending money on goal scorers isn't the way to get a cup in the new NHL.

Whoever came up with that factoid didn't do their job right.

Maybe the way he should have said it was, of the top 45 scorers in the NHL during the regular season the only one still left in the West is Kopitar.

Unfortunately, that's not true either.
If you mean goal scorers:
11th: Vrbata PHX (35)
44th: Hornqvist NSH (27)
(Kopitar's down in 53rd place with 25 goals)
If you mean point scorers:
12th: Whitney PHX (77)
15th: Kopitar LA (76)
Either way... the factoid is wrong.
For what it's worth, it's not the teams with one superstar player that are winning... the teams that play as a team are winning.
