Kingston just released a Sandforce-based drive that has built-in encryption. I would love to see some serious benchmarking on such a drive...
Samsung also has a few, too, including mSATA drives:
I would like to see the standard SATA and mSATA drives benchmarked with and without various levels of encryption. This is a very useful feature.
I would also like the costs of enabling it and disabling explored such as:
* Can you encrypt/decrypt and maintain existing data.
** If so, how long does it take.
* Affect on backup processes such as Rebit, Ghost, etc.
And, if possible, explore how strong the encryption really is. See if you can "score" the methodology.
