Pitfalls/downsides to 120hz vs IPS 8+ bit/2560 monitors

Hello,

I have not seen a thorough discussion of the topic in the title, just bits and pieces about difficulties associated with 'specialty' monitors in different threads. If some knowledgeable users could please inform myself and the community in a neat format in this thread, I would appreciate it. Please excuse any confusing language as I am not an expert at all on this subject.

Issues to cover:
Video cards (including 2+ card configurations) which will not idle, or idle at significantly higher power.
120hz Monitors with deceptively high input delay.
Application support of panels with higher color bit depths.
Application support of panels with wide gamut vs sRGB?
Will add more as I recall or they come up in discussion.

And not to hijack my own thread, but I do have a self motive for this discussion and I would like some advice here. I am starting to consider more thoroughly getting an Apple Cinema Display with mini displayport for use with one of my gaming computers.

I would like to know if I will need to make many special adjustments in my video card settings, game settings, or driver files in many games (especially Valve and Blizzard games) to deal with compatibility or image quality issues that would not occur on the more common cheap monitors (like current Asus VH236H).

-for my self I went with the new samsung 27" 2560x1440 ,stunning color ,a bit of motion burr in bf3 for the first few mins then don't see it any more
