Unhappy Alienware MX17 R3...best docking station option

I have an MX17 R3 Alienware laptop. I'd like to dump my desktop completely, but USB docking stations seem to be the only option to use my laptop for big screen gaming. The latest have installed vid cards which are supposedly high def, however using the dock station graphics card defeats the purpose of having the power of the superior high end gaming vid card in the laptop itself.

I know I can simply plug my large monitor directly to the laptop, but then I am also reduced to plugging in the LAN cable, keyboard, mouse, etc. each time I go mobile with the laptop.

Is the only option to use the USB docking station for the peripherals and going direct to the laptop with the monitor, or is there another option?

Thanks in advance.
