Windows 7 Primary hard disk rating 5.9?
I am waiting on my SSDs to be delivered but in the meantime I have been experimenting with my new system.
Intel Core i7-920
Giga-byte GA-EX58-UD5
12GB of Corsair XMS3 DDR3 1600
PNY Quadro FX 3800
Windows 7 Pro (x64)
Areca ARC-1680i RAID Controller
WD WD3200AAKS 320GB 7200 RPM 16MB X2 RAID0
I configured TWO brand new WD WD3200AAKS 320GB 7200 RPM 16MB in a RAID0 array for testing purposes. After getting everything installed and configured I checked out my performance rating. I was disappointed to see that the Storage rating was a 5.9.
Does that sound accurate?
Will the rating improve when my OCZ Agility EX SLC SSDs are in a RAID0?
Thanks,

The maximum score traditional hard drives can get is 5.9 I believe.
My single 40gb Kingston SSD gets a 7.6 WEI so RAID0 SSDs should get more than that.

huh? i thought the maximum score WAS 5.9? I have all state of the art components for everything except hdd (still using 7200rpm), and they're all 5.9 as well (cpu, vid card, ram).

my rate is 5.7, I don't think this rate is important, as long as there is no mechanical problem, I'll smile

no hard drives are not state of the art. solid state is. i guess you get -2 points for using an ancient hard drive subsystem

I have a theory that windows gives a higher score for safty and speed. I had 4 x 74 raptors in raid0 and only got 5.9, had a friend thed had 6.9 with 3 x 320 hitachi drives in raid5. He does have a ich9 southbridge while I have the ich7, so I may wrong.

You're getting Win7 confused with Vista
Vista -> 5.9
Win7 -> 7.9

I got 6.0 with two Raptors.
Score doesn't mean much, one 7200 rpm drive can get 5.9, two in raid at best 6.0. it is like intel paid M$ to market SSDs

probably because your latency is high. try it with a 512meg BBWC controller in raid-0 - weak cache hurts

Looks normal.
If you want high HDD scores in 7, you need a very good SSD or RAIDed SSDs.
Mechanical HDDs aren't going to score well, & they shouldn't, as they are leagues slower in things like access times & random read/write performance.
