Default Bed and box spring on the floor without a frame, will it cause damage?

I just bought a new mattress and boxspring (king) and can't quite afford a new frame quite yet (the set we'd like is over $600, we'll get it in two weeks or so) - is it safe to just sleep on the mattress/boxspring without a frame for a while, or is it necessary for the structural integrity of the set?

We could technically get a cheapy metal frame in the meantime, but it would be a waste of money since we really want the nicer set

They didn't provide you with a free metal frame? They're like $30.

They didn't and quoted me $150 for the metal frame. I can get one for much cheaper but have my eye on a wood bed set I'd rather get.

Safe for what? Damage to what? Is this a parody? Where's the original thread?

why would it cause damage? is there something special about a frame that would prevent it?

I don't know, sorry for the dumb question - I just grew up being told that a bed straight on the floor is a bad, bad idea.

maybe it's an issue of trapped moisture under the bed?
or, perhaps it's just because spiders can climb into the bed a lot easier and eat you in your sleep.

For sure this OP will never be any kind of engineer.

No, actually, the floor gives it all the support needed.

The only thing I could think of that could possibly go wrong is scratching a hardwood floor.

well, if you have hardwood flooring and go at it vigorously, you could damage the floor.

There is actually less stress put on a box spring when on the floor than when it is on a frame.

Yes, but on the bright side, the monster can't get out from under your bed to kill you at night.

ever looked at the bottom of boxsprings? they are not exactly what I call smooth. You got occasional staples sticking out.
