Why Edy's on the east coast and Dreyer's on the west coast?
So they don't look like a knock off of the much better brand of Breyer's? Then again I see Dreyer's and Breyer's on the West coast.

Thats what I thought at first but then I buy Breyer's ice cream here as well.
Edy's/Dreyer's do have the best fruit bars though
Blue Bell icecream is still the best in my opinion, to bad I havent had Blue Bell since I lived in Texas.

There are more companies that do this...my guess is one purchased the other and they decided to not change the name...kind of makes sense if people, say on the east coast, are used to seeing (and buying) Edy's...if they saw "Dreyer's" they may not make the connection and buy something else.
Carl's Jr & Hardees are the same way
Best Foods & Hellmans are the same way

I searched for 15 minutes on google and got nothing... maybe it's to honor the original company founders, one of whom was named Edy and the other Dryer.

Dreyer's HQ (prior to the Nestle purchase - now it's the "home office" or some such nonsense) is 1/2 block from my house. The ice cream they sell there in the ice cream parlor on the bottom floor is better than in the stores. I dunno why. Perhaps it's all in my head. At any rate, now I want to go and get some. Curse you, OP!

I don't think Breyer's is related at all to Dreyer's and Edy's. Not only that, but I think Dryer's and Edy's both came way before Breyer's.

It's not totally east coast and west coast. Hardees goes all the way to montana and wyoming and Carls Jr goes into texas and oklahoma. So they have some overlap.

isn't mello yello the same thing as mountain dew?
I had it once while on vacation in florida as a kid, but don't remember what it tasted like... I've never seen MY anywhere up here in the north east.
