Default McDonald's Monopoly 2006 Game w/ Best Buy Bucks

Well folks, it is that time of year again. Here comes the Monopoly Game and another Fall of us cranking out envelope after envelope to get those Best Buy Bucks. I submitted about 138 last year, but many people went above and beyond that...submitting hundreds of requests for game pieces by mail.

USEFUL LINKS:
Last years Thread
Official Game Rules

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
And now, without further ado, I present the guide my updated guide for 2006...
"How to get Best Buy Bucks, and make a profit at it." v2
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

By requesting game pieces by mail, you will actually come out ahead with best buy bucks. Here is how it would break down...

Example: 100 requests for game pieces. (you can make requests as often as you like, but NO mechanical means can be used to address the enveloples, do it by hand) Each request will net you One (1) Game Piece and One (1) Chance Piece. You WILL get either a $1 or $5 BB Buck and you might win something else with the other piece (food, other prize, or nothing)

Given that you have a 1 in 12.4 chance of getting a $5 BB buck, here is what you can expect to get back.

Worst Case: $100 BB Bucks
Best Case: $500 BB Bucks
Probable Case Based on Odds in Rules: (Eight $5 Bucks & Ninety-Two $1 Bucks) $132 BB Bucks (Note: this average is down $33 from 2005).

Cost to send 100 submissions:
Number 6 envelopes can be had from many drug stores on sale for 300 for $1. Add tax and you have $1.08. You will need 200 envelopes, as you need one to send in and one that they will send back. Total Cost: $0.72

Stamps: You will need 200 stamps. $0.39 each (up from $0.37 in 2005 )
Total Cost: $78.00

Complete COST: $78.72
So, using the probable outcome I discussed above. You will most likely gross $132 BB Bucks, subtract your costs ($78.72), which leaves you with $53.28.

In other words, you are most likely going to save 40.36% on your purchase at BB.
(78.72/132=0.5963, 1.0-0.5963=40.36%)

Now this is assuming your time is free, which it may or may not be. Consider this, if you only fill out the senders field (the TO field).
Writing the McDonnalds address took me about 45secs. Writing my address took about 25 secs. Total, 70 secs times 100 entires equals 1hr and 57 minutes. Given the figures above, you are making about $27 an hour doing this. Not bad!

Keep in mind, the max amount of BB Bucks that can be redeemed per day (and therefore per purchase) is $200. So, the sweet spot for submissions would be no more than 152 requests.

Finally, this is not meant to be a waste of time. I would rather not spend more money and eat a ton of unhealthy food in order to win something in this contest. Before you get that 100 roll of stamps, you better get your mind set on what you want to spend it on at Best Buy and ask yourself these questions...
1. Is it excluded by the rules for purchase with BB Bucks?
2. Can I get it for 43% off elsewhere?
3. Am I ready to spend 2 hours writing on envelopes?

Also, it is more fun finding loopholes in the game that will benefit you.

Read up on the rules before attemping:
http://monopoly.promotions.com/monop...age=rules.html

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
There you have it. It is a bit less "profitable" this time around due to prize odds and postage increase, but the numbers still say you will walk away with a heavy reward. And if you feel the need for greed and double-dip the codes then OMFG you could make out like a bandit.

So, let me get this straight...

I can send snail mails to McDonald's requesting their monopoly pieces, no purchase necessary? They will just send me two pieces upon request?

reading the rules, it sounds like the outer envelope has to have my return address, and the mcdonalds address ?

and i guess the SASE only needs my address ?

don't want to mess up..

So I've got a question. How long does it take for them to send back your requests?

Last year, the average turnaround was about 2-3 weeks...if memory serves me correctly.

The hidden sponsors for this program are the USPS and the AMA's specialists in Carpal Tunnel Syndrome!

I was in BB yesterday and they were giving away 2 free game pieces at the geek squad counter. I just waited till no one was looking and grabbed a handful, put them in my pocket, walked away. Came back 5 minutes later and asked another questions and grabbed another handful.

So...hmmmm...could you fill out your info...scan it...make a jpeg out of it. Then put it on the envelope? It would look more realistic.

You could even do a couple different styles...a little more messy...a little less.

Hahahaah...I dunno, just trying to help you guys out.

Doesn't exclude gift cards. So, buy a couple $200 gift cards and you can use them together to get a PS3.
Uh, it says Best Buy Gift Cards right before it says video game hardware...???

Easy to get aroundthe 'no video game hardware' ban. Buy something pricey like a digital camera (not the SLR) or a AV amp. Return it the next day unopened for store credit.

Go buy your Xbox or whatever with store credit.

Granted its an extra step, but if it's what you really wanted to begin with ....

One extra question - rules say that return address and SASE mailing address must be same address. So that means I have to fill out my address on both the SASE AND the external envelope.

Would they forefeit the request if I used an adhesive 'return address' label on the external envelope (not the SASE one)?

FYI, this is a lot of work. Aside from writing, stuffing and stamping the envelopes, you need to open them and peel off the game pieces. Then to redeem them you need to either transcribe down the 24 character alphanumeric codes and use them online or go to Best Buy and prepare to have a half hour all out brawl with the store manager when you try to use more than $10 worth. I'm sure you can make more actually WORKING at Best Buy for the same amount of time you spend doing this. Additionally, anything you can buy at Best Buy you can buy elsewhere for cheaper, so it's not really 40% you're saving because you're overpaying by at least 20% in the first place.

That said, I'll probably do 100 anyway, just cause it's kinda of a kick up to that point. beyond that, it's becoming a job.
