Default Major GPA vs Cumulative GPA

Whenever I'm filling out a job application and I'm usually asked to list my GPA. Would it be considered falsification of educational credentials if I list my Major GPA instead of my Cumulative GPA? My Major GPA is about 3.4 and my Cumulative is about 2.85.

Cumulative.

If they wanted your major GPA they would specify. You could list both if you want, but you'd be lying if you listed only your major GPA. I listed my cumulative on my resume with my major GPA in parentheses next to it.

Most places tell you to list both, especially when applying to a job in your field of study. You might get away with putting just your major GPA since your cum sucks though, they dont really pay attention to resumes.

You could always put them both down or just not answer it and you can clarify in person.
GPA's are usually only used when somebody first gets out of school. After your first job it has been my experience nobody asks what your GPA is because your work experience is worth more than grades you got x amount of years ago.

You know, sometimes it's better to spell the whole word out.

Well I guess that would apply in my situation then because this is the first real job after graduation. I put down my Major GPA but they never asked during the interview.. company is just doing a background check and I hope it won't be a problem.

Obviously, whichever is higher.

Clearly note that it is your major GPA. On your resume, put:
Quote:
University of Blah
BA Political Science 2003
Major GPA: 3.4
Leave out cumulative.

On applications, write
Quote:
2.85, 3.4 Major

i would put both if i were you. in my case, my major GPA wasn't that much higher than my total, so i put my total. but your GPA is pretty low (no offense), so I'd put both to show you are at least capable of doing better. BTW, no one ever asked me for my transcripts while i was interviewing, but YMMV.

The dean of my department, for what little bit that is worth, said to put your major if the job is in your degree field and you cumulative if it is not.
