Too bad Core 2 is the only intel I'd buy right now, since I'm not interested in a massively OC'd 805D.

This is a one-two punch in the face of AMD though, if true.

Sounds like BS to me. Doesn't make sense to have almost the entire 6xx series priced the same.

Intel has done this in the past (same prices for several speed grades) when closing out the lower speed parts. They don't price the 3.0/3.2 speeds below the 3.4 since they don't want to take sales away from the 3.4.

Intel has done 60% price cut before? I don't follow much Intel news actually...

I see many cheap 920/915 4 GHz + OCs in the future.

It does if they're getting rid of the lower speed chips.
Usually when Intel does price cits they shift every CPU down one price bracket, and you end up with the 2 bottom CPU's listed at the same price, and then eventually the slowest one gets phased out.
Since they are releasing Core 2 Due I assume they are accelerating the phasing out of their lower speed CPU's by making everything price brackets cheaper so they have 3 CPU's overlapping, the slowest 2 of which will be phased out fairly swiftly with the faster one taking the new place of the low end.

Just as I was all set to make the upgrade I have to wait 2 months....

But the $100 savings would get me a spiffy video card....

Wow. I sense the return of the $240 and under PC deals from Dell and HP. That's why Intel would do this -- dual core *retail* PCs priced the same or lower than Sempron boxes. Those things aren't competing with the high end high margin gaming rigs, and the low end is where AMD's enormous growth has been. They might be canibalizing some Celeron sales, but I'm sure that's not a big issue.

With the sweetheart deals Dell gets from Intel they'll be able to offer a sub-$200 dual core PC. Remember they get some cash from the bundled crapware.

The pricing makes sense. Perfect timing to throw a wet blanket over those starting to question why they should upgrade/stay with AM2, and maybe get a few people to upgrade before as well as after Conroe debuts.

I would LOVE to see them put the 805 into their lower-end BTX boxes like the 3100.

Dell seems to be slowing down lately... they're still only using the POS 820 processor for all but the XPS machines! The 5150 is a nice machine but overpriced (here in Canada at least.) The 3100 uses a 5xx or 6xx processor, no 8xx's allowed!

Doesn't that sort of imply that the price drops will be before July 23rd? How else would you "aggressively sell/dump inventory?" I don't think increased ad campaigns would do it.

I can hold off my upgrade until June 4th.... later will take supreme effort!

The 930 is a very nice, inexpensive processor that (with the exception of a few games) performs darn-near the same as the 3800+ for $100 less. While not as cool as the 3800+ it'll still be much cooler than any 805 would be!!

Drop the price on the 9xx chip and I'll be buying one. End of story.
