It was praised to be a music download service that was safe, legal, and provided high quality music without DRM. But... some new information has came to light about AT's favorite music download site.
Whoever thought the Russians would do something illegal like this?
ALLOFMP3.COMis the best-known
of several unlicensed Russian-based
websites offering copyrighted music
nternationally. Allofmp3.com is an unlawful
site both inside and outside Russia. IFPI
successfully engaged a Moscow prosecutor
to act against the site, but progress is very
slow and is hampered by the inadequate
enforcement procedures in Russia.
Meanwhile in Germany there was a court
injunction against Allofmp3.com and in Italy
a local-based portal to the site was shut
down by the police.

I knew it was illegal, but I prefer it because of several reasons...
It's not P2P; and more importantly you get your song almost instantly instead of having to wait for sources to be found and then dick around with slow downloads and mis-titled songs. You get exactly what's advertised, in the format and quality of your choice. Well worth .02/MB in my book.

The problem with this world is people who should not breed. They have nothing better to do, so thats all they do. And the people that should breed?? They are too busy fixing all the problems caused by those who should not breed!

One look at their prices should have told you that. I can't get to the site but I think last time I looked it was only $0.15 per song!
Yup, now I guess people have to go back to the racket that is .99/song. What a great freaking deal!
And in other news, a group of scientists finally concluded that two plus two is, indeed, equal to FOUR.

God forbid that you actually buy the song and credit the people who create the music for you!

And how much of that .99/song at itunes do you think actually goes to the boys of nSync?

More than what allofmp3 or Kazaa gives, i'm sure.

What does "illegal" mean? And I don't mean that facetiously.
If the Russian authorities are fully aware of AllofMp3.com and yet have done nothing to prosecute it, it stands to reason that calling it "illegal" in Russia is something an irrelevant exercise.
Here's the *bottom* line. Why should we follow laws, when the laws themselves are made by the private industry? Copyright laws are probably the clearest example of backpocketing of the U.S. legislature by big business.
I'll pay for music when they pay the musicians.

In an odd turn of events, I stopped downloading music about 2 years ago... maybe a bit longer. Funny enough... I haven't really bought any CDs since then, either. Maybe a couple dozen or so... and I really don't give a crap any more.
I listen to the radio more often now and I really don't care.
Guess I've just gotten to that age where I'm over trying to define my life in music.

I don't download music from any site for a few reasons, one of them being it isn't in MP3 and I HATE the DRM stuff that keeps me from burning it to an audio CD without paying extra, and how my music would all expire or whatever if I decided to cancel the service. Worthless I tell you, if you paid for the music already, why must you keep paying month by month to keep it? Not right. I'll stick with getting the actual CD from the store, it's cheaper in the long run. Then of course I can rip it to my HD on my comp, put together custom playlists, burn the playlists to CD for the car, etc etc etc.....

Well yeah, when you're stupid, it's easy to come to conclusions like that.

FYI, AllofMp3 lets you get it in whatever quality you want.
Anyone who actually that allofmp3 was a legit source of music was simply blinded by the fact that they were "paying" such as to justify their illegal actions.
It's always been illegal and always will, simple as that.
So the IFPI (international version of the RIAA) says that allofmp3.com is illegal, but does not yet have a conviction. Of course they're going to say it's illegal...
It's like taking the Iraqi Information Minister's word for something.

You all say the same things. You act like musicians are required to sign deals or die like they don't know what they are getting in to. Then you talk you are some sort of support group for the musicians.
Either way you slice it, what you are doing is WRONG. You are taking something that doesn't belong to you and trying to justify your actions with stupidity and your own take on how the laws should be.

"engaged a Moscow prosecutor"
Quote:
Moscow prosecutors are considering whether to proceed with a criminal case against Allofmp3.com after Moscow City Police turned over results of a preliminary investigation on 8 February. In a move calculated to add extra pressure, the London-based International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) submitted a formal complaint to the prosecutor?s office on behalf of its members alleging "large-scale copyright infringement". Moscow City Prosecutor?s office has until 10 March to decide whether to proceed with a criminal prosecution.
"progress is very slow and is hampered by the inadequate enforcement procedures in Russia"
Quote:
The Prosecutor of the Moscow?s South-Western district rejected to initiate a criminal case against distribution of music recordings by AllofMP3.com Internet resource. The Prime-TASS was informed of this by an informed source. The writ about copyright violations by AllofMP3.com owners was submitted to the Prosecutor?s Office of Moscow?s South-Western administrative district on February 24, 2005 on behalf of the International Federation for Phonogram Industry /IFPI/. During the investigation the Prosecutors Office found that the AllofMP3.com owners in fact did distribute music recordings via the online resource. However, the holder of right for these recordings did not authorize to distribute them for commercial purposes. At the same time, the Prosecutor found that the Russian Law on copyright does not qualify Internet in legal terms, whereas the authors? property rights are extended to distribution of copies of their works by any means. Along with that, the Prosecutor says that from judicial point of view, distribution of any works via Internet is impossible because it would be a digital transfer, whereas the current Russian legislation necessitates corporeal transfer of works only. Besides that, the Prosecutor concluded that, distribution of works does not result in making a new copy of the work, but only creates conditions for being utilized by end consumer. On these grounds, the Prosecutor?s Office in Moscow?s South-Western district rejected initiation of a criminal case against the Internet resource officials due to absence of corpus delicti.
