Default How's Best Buy's return policy for hard drives?

I just bought a Western Digital hard drive from Best Buy using a combination of a Best Buy gift card and credit card.

It isn't significantly quieter than my current Seagate, so I would like to return it.

How's Best Buy's return policy for hard drives?

This was an After Rebate item (haven't sent anything in and haven't cut out the UPC), but Best Buy's website says that they may deduct any rebate amounts. Also, given that I used a gift card for part of the purchase, will they refund all of my purchase price to my credit card?

Since you have't yet sent for the rebate, they will return the same amounts you paid with to a gift card & your credit card.

IOW, you'll be back at square one.

"Any product that was purchased when a mail-in rebate was available on the purchase is subject to having the amount of the rebate deducted from the refund amount."

Hopefully, they don't enforce this.

Also, do you think they would be willing to return my complete purchase price to my credit card (I used up all of my Best Buy gift card and the CSR took it)

Also, I have opened the box and installed it in my computer.

I will rezero the drive with the Western Digital disk tools before I return it.

Will Best Buy accept it back? And will they attempt to charge me a restocking fee?

I answered your question to the best of my knowledge, & i have a feeling they will do exactly as i mentioned.

AFAIK, they do not deduct the rebate amount unless the UPC has been removed, but who knows. It may vary from store to store.
Also, the chances of getting the amount paid using the gift card refunded to the credit card are extremely slim. I don't see why they would.

By doing that, they are effectively throwing away the opportunity for you to be a repeat customer...so yeah, good luck on getting that to happen

Do you think they will charge me a restocking fee because I opened and installed the drive?

I returned a video card a few years ago that I had opened and they didn't charge me a restocking fee.

Read.

There are only restocking fees on certain items.

The only reason they have restocking fees on certain items is because sadly, many people like to abuse return policies on those certain items.
Simply put, they have restocking fees on items that are common "rental items".

LOL. So that's why the video card that I helped a friend purchase at BB turned out to be used when opened.

PS. You forgot to put the warranty card back in the box.
