Default Does popcorn go bad?

I found a few bags of unpopped kettle corn popcorn in the cupboard. Its probably been there for at least two years, is it still good?

It goes stale eventually.

How long that takes depends on what it is packed in.

My mom used to work at a movie theatre that popped thier popcorn once a year. The fresh stuff was just to fill the theatre with the smell. Theres no way the poppers at the stand could actually keep up with the amount of popcorn they sold.

They stored it in garbage bags in a back room, and just heated it real quick before serving. I couldn't tell the difference from the freshly popped stuff.

That sounds absolutely disgusting. You mean to tell me the popcorn they served was up to a year old?

Ugh.

Whoever designed their concession stand was a retard. I can always tell the difference.

Ya sounds gross, but chances are you've had year old popcorn and didnt even know. Lots of movie theatres do it (my mom worked for a major chain) As long as it is kept dry in storage, and heated using a dry heat, it tastes just like the fresh stuff.

Trust me, I know.

I am aware of at least one major exhibitor where bagging popped corn is policy. It is stupid, unnecessary, and cheap.

if it pops it will be ok. it's possible that the moisture inside evaporated over time and the kernels won't pop.

But I've SEEN the popcorn popping in the machine and my popcorn being scooped from there.

Maybe it's because I live in Canada.
