Default Why does pop/soda have an expiration date?

Its water and sugar, how can it go bad? I'm drinking this can of Sierra Mist that has an expiration date of "JUL 25 05" and it tastes absolutely perfect.

My guess something to do with the carbonation.

I was wondering about that myself... but this mist has tons of carbonation and bites too.

I don't know but it's there for a reason. Try a can of Cola a year or so after expiry. You just may never drink a Cola again. Quite disgusting.

freshness makes a big difference unless you have a ****** sense of taste.

The more recently bottled, the better the taste, no question.

I used to date someone who was a machinist in the factory that made the pull tabs for the soda cans... they are called perma-rings, btw. He said that they put dates on the can cause eventually the soda would eat thru the can.

i dont know how true that is, cause i have some COKE cans fro the chicago bulls 1990-91 championship that never erroded. the water eveporated from them, but thet never erroded.
