Fade the edge of an image into white in Photoshop/Illustrator
Does anyone have any idea how to do this? I have an image I am trying to insert into a flyer. I need to fade the edge to white so it blends better with the overall look.

There are several actions that do this. Look on the adobe exchange board under 'actions'. . . it is free and there is lots of cool stuff there too.

How about just a gradient that goes from transparent to white? You can also manually do it using the paintbrush with the hardness and opacity set to a lower value.

Well i've figured out that Illustrator just isn't going to do it. Photoshop seems like it will, though it is being a bit touchy.

Sure, and a gradient is pretty easy to do. But if you want it more dynamic you'll have to use something else. Or you could do the gradient first, then blur it.

That's what I am working on now. What I can't seem to fix is that with gradient it seems to turn the colors a bit darker than they are in the rest of the image right before it becomes the white.

lighten. The blend start is set about 40% over to the right.

That's odd it gets darker. Never really tried what you are doing though.
