Default how to remove old license plate sticker?

Need to apply a new registration sticker to my license plate. What are some of the best ways to remove the old stickers? I'm thinking heating with hairdryer, would it work?

Why do you need to remove the old stickers? You just put the new ones over the old ones.

That's a good way to get them stolen- a stack of stickers is easy to remove with the aforementioned razor blade. Yes, it happens..

Put it over the old one. I did that for 10 years on my last car.

you need to cut an 'X' into the sticker so that they cannot use it if they try to peel it off...

Yeah, the stickers are coded to the registration...but short of either examining the plate/registration or running the plate through DMV, nobody will know the difference.

Yeah, something like that doesn't even register on my Give-A-Shit-O-Meter.

I never got that - i worked at a traffic court and while a expired registration would get you a slap on the wrist usually just making you go get it within 10 days - a blatant lie of registration (by stealing a sticker) would net you a fine and/or public service (+/- depending on judge and past) in addition to making you go and get your registration but they would likely suspend your license for that time too.

I have this issue too. They had problems with people stealing stickers so they swtiched to under the windshield stickers. The old sticker is still on the plate and I need to have it removed so cops don't have a reason to pull me over.

Stealing registration stickers is pretty common here in Kahleeforneeya. It gives a person with expired tabs the appearance of legitimacy.
(you'd be surprised at the number of nice cars driving around here with expired license tabs...and no legal registration = no insurance)

I remove mine every year and then cut the new one with several diagonal slashes to make removal/reuse next to impossible.
A single-edge razor blade works pretty well for this task.

That's why you make cross cuts on the sticker after you put it on.

Having 3 or 4 stickers there are fine, but having 8 or more stacking stickers is a bit too messy. I couldn't do it cleanly using a razor blade, but it seems that may be the only option.

It might register a bit stronger if someone steals yours and the cops stop you for expired plates...You should be able to get out of the ticket, but you won't get out of the hassle of replacing it, (DMV FTL) nor the cost of the new tabs.

Try GooGone (http://www.googone.com/googone.../googonecleaners.aspx) - that stuff is magic. You can find it at home depot, walmart, etc.

My registration is in my car and up-to-date. Going to the DMV isn't that bad, it's down in Lancaster, OH and I can hit the Farmer's Market while I'm there. I'd more upset that someone broke my license plate frame to get at the sticker.

Last year, someone in my town actually had the corner of their license plate cut off altogether.

How will this prevent anything?

Just put it together like a puzzle.
