Default $3.99 Yate Loon 120mm fans

Check out www.tekgems.com

They have Yate-Loon 120mm fans at a great price. As we all know the model D12SL-12 is what the awesome quiet Nexus fans are. Nexus just adds a resistor to slow it down a little. You can do the same with a fanbus and you have have a slightly higher top end when you need it.

They are a steal when you buy them in quantity.

1=$10.99
2=$5.99 each
3-4=$4.99 each
5+=$3.99 each

I got 5 for 4.99 and they have dropped another buck. Cheapest I have seen anywhere.

They also have Blue-LED ones that are medium speed for those that want the bling and needto push more air. They are a little louder but still have are great cfm/dB.

I love how these guys do business. 4 of the fan girlls are only slightly more than one.

They buy certain items in bulk from distributors and piecemeal them out to us tech-junkies.

Site is a little weak but don't let that fool you I have had great service from them.

Yes, very sad. I actually only needed 4 (2 cases x 2 fans each) but the vendor's pricing structure makes the 5th free.

Hmmm, here they have 80mm fans for $1.40 when you buy ten or more. That works out to "buy two, get eight free". I've never heard of spire, but I need some 80mm fans.

I have a few of those fans. They aren't too loud but at 7v they're pretty quiet.

I'm not sure if this may be a question for another post, but what kind of software or hardware could I hook up to one of these fans to slow it down. I want ot buy a nexus, but they are close to 22 bucks a pop after shipping. So, would I save money by using something else to slow this fan down to a value a little faster than 1000rpm(as nexus' is) or just get a nexus?

Because even at 11 dollars a pop(for one), 16ish dollars is cheaper than 22 for one nexus. If this would require another thread, let me know. I don't want to derail =P.

Thanks for posting the link!

Zalman Fanmate controller works fine and is only $5-6 (try to order w/fan(s) to save shipping). But Nexus and others will allow independent control of multiple fans and may be a better choice in the long run. I have Fanmates, Nexus and Zalman MFC-1 controllers and all work fine.

I guess I'll make use of this double post.

I've found a recent thread and several users claim that the yate loons are junk. First time I'm reading that.

These are about the lowest quality 120mm fans on the market. That is no deal at $4.

Trying to place value on a junk part by comparing to the price of a good part is not useful.

yate loons ARE junk. They use insufficient lubrication, are poorly balanced, and have cheap basic bearing design that doesn't hold nearly as well as (take your pick - NMB, Delta, Papst, Nidec, Sunon, Sanyo, Panaflo- list goes on).

You can Froogle for Panaflo and get them for about $8 ea., likely a little less if you scavenge the electronics surplus 'sites.

The deal du joir is probably a $1.50 Papst, but that's just one option and I haven't tried that particular model myself, cannot confirm specifics of operation at 12V beyond what's stated on BGMicro's page.

Um... First of all, Panaflos and Yate Loons are not really in the same category so they aren't a great alternative to Yate Loon. Everyone except you seems to think that Yate Loons are on par with the other "quiet fan" brands. Especially when these are as low as $3.99 a piece, you better have to evidence that convinces me these aren't worth it.

Oh yeah, and you linked to a "162CFM, 60dB, ball bearing, 6000RPM" fan which "At 12V, it is very quiet". Hmm?

Edit : Yeah, I sorta misread that link. The idea that Yate Loons are overall crap fans still doesn't mix with what I've heard, but since they are so cheap I think I'll try some for myself.
