HD 3650 ia overall somewhat slower than 8600GTS.

Getting the 3850, which is much faster than 8600GTS or HD3650 gives you a much better bang-for-the-buck.

Have fun with this Comparison Chart

3650 is really a low end card to compete with the 8600gt.
Fortunately this is probably the best time in graphics history for powerful yet cheap bang-for-buck cards.
Here are your best bets (assuming you're in the us):

ATI 3850 512MB: http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16814161216 HIS OC card with better cooler for $145 amr.

Just remember that you'll need a quality 450+ watt psu.

Let us know what you decide on.

9600gt > 3850 and cheaper
9600gt ~= 3870 and much cheaper

Go with a 9600gt.

Yes ,the 9600 GT is clearly the best choice here.

Even 8800GS (+ overclock) for $110 > HD3850

isn't the 8600 hidous bang of the buck?
I would recommend the 9600GT as the best bang for the buck right now.

As I see it, the 8600 GT is pointless right now. It's not good for gaming, and if you want something for a HTPC is better to buy the cheapest ATI 3XXX you can find or the 8400GS.

the 8600gt isnt a horrible bang for the buck if you get it on ebay for like $55, or on a rebate deal for $50 or so. those are both possible.

that said, the 3650/2600xt are about the same (2600xt is actually faster) but they compete with the 8600gt more or less. there really isnt an exact equivalent to the 8600gts... though a 3850 256mb would be better but more expensive by about $20.

best bang for the buck cards right now are generally the 8800gs and 9600gt depending on what res you want to run and what games you want to play. if you wanna run AA , and high res get the 9600gt over the 8800gs basically

great guys! So right now I've pretty much narrowed it down to 9600gt Vs. 8800gs though I'm leaning towards the 9600gt atm

Palit 9600GT $125 after MIR

Rebate ends today, buy this now. Comes with DVI and HDMI onboard so you can hook it directly to an HDTV if you like (great for HTPC setup).

I think its safe to say that the 9600GT is the mainstream card to buy at this point in time.

8600GT is not completely pointless at the $60 pricepoint -- neither is the HD3650 or 7600GT at the same pricepoint. These cards don't require a PCIe connector and can still turn out reasonable frame rates on older titles with some eye candy off. They are not midrange cards by a long shot, they are very much entry level.

And yeah, 9600GT 512M for $130 is a no brainer unless you can find a 512 meg HD38XX under $110.
