Default undelete files from WD My Book World Edition??

Well I know this isn't the most popular drive especialy due to the in-bred DRM but I felt it would meet my needs, and it was on sale. (woo hoo)

So, I just set it up today and am playing with it, and I accidently deleted about 2 gigs of files already.

Well, I started with the obvious and checked my recycle bin. Nope. Ok, I have a copy of getdataback that has saved my bacon in the past. Hmm, only for NTFS. Ok, I DL a trial of it for linux. Seems like a good idea. Nope. Apparently you have to install a host and a remote application on each computer. Well, the drive isn't a computer per se, more of a quasi-nas box. Now what??? I won't write anything else to this drive in the hopes of recovering the 2 gigs or so of data.

Here is how I installed the drive, I didn't use the mionet software.

(geez there has to be a way to shorten that link, but I don't know how, sorry)

Here is what WD has to say about it

A rundown of it says that when the files are deleted, they are gone. But it also mentions MioNet which I am not actually using.

Either way, I know the data is still THERE I just can't get it.

Thanks a BUNCH!

It's a NAS and looks like you will need professional data recovery service unless you can figure out what Linux varian this thing is running. Then you will still have to buy the right software to get the stuff off. If it's a snap server, forget it cause there's no cheap solution for this. You can try GetData for FAT first since it's not going to cost you anything anyway. If this is fat, you are very lucky.
Drop your hard drive!!! Doh!!! Rofl!!!My Heat

Is taking the physical drive out of the enclosure not an option?
I have no experience with NAS, so just wondering if it's a possibility.
WD cases are usually easy to open...

Just an update on this. I was able to recover the files from the original drive I transfered them from with runtime's getdataback. I then promptly returned this cruddy drive and bought a 750gb Maxtor Onetouch 4. So far I am much happier with the maxtor, even though I did lose the nas capability. I have it hooked to my "server" running 24/7.

hi VegasF6,

Just read your mail, in Anand Tech Forums and have a similar issue, where I deleted a folder of Pictures in my WD MyBook World 1TB drive.

Would like to recover it, hope you can help!

I see that you used runtime's getdataback, can you please provide some details of how you did this?

many thanks
