Half-Life 2: stuck on Route Kanal level (SPOILERS), please help

Okay, so I'm on the Route Kanal level and just used my crowbar so smash through the floor and fell into a room full of exposive barrels and those flying head-cutters. Wait for a few to come out, shoot the barrel, they all explode destroying most of the head-cutters. Use my crowbar on the rest.

I climb the ladder to the top, jump on the pipe and go to the 2nd floor that was blocked off by a fence. Go into the other room, fall into water, and smash the boxes to reveal 3 health packs. There's also a floor-to-ceiling fence in the water. Climb back out, go to the main room, pick up a barrel, climb ladder, and put it on the pipe so I can use it to jump into the ventilation shaft. Pick up a voltage cell there. Next, dump all of the barrels into the water below and build a ramp so I can jump into the red sewer pipe and come out on the other side of the floor-to-ceiling fence. I climb the ladder to the top and see a stairway on the other side of the room. But there's a HUGE gap to jump to reach so.

So... how do I get out of this area? I breezed through the other areas (pretty fun), but have been stuck on this damn part for a few hours. Thanks.

Ok, going from the room you were in at the end of that post.

Swim to the bottom of the rooom. Crowbar the wood planks blocking stuff from floating to the top. Jump on the big wooden spools and then onto the other side of the room.

Forget the barrels. Go into the room with all the pipes. There is a valve on one of the pipes. It's a little hard to see, and you have to do some light gymnastics to get to it. When you turn the valve, the water rises. Go back to the room with the barrels, and swim down the ladder, through the big sewer pipe, into the room adjoining the "pipe" room. Climb the ladder and shoot the boards in the bottom of the pool, releasing the spools and boxes. Use the boxes to jump up on the other side.

Yeah I was stuck here for awhile too but I got it =), this is one kick ass game.

Hey, thanks guys, I'll try it out now. You know I was thinking that the level looked VERY similar to Far Cry where you had to flood the room by turning a valve in order to get to the ventilation shaft in the ceiling. Couldn't find the damn valve, though. Well it's nice to know that I wasn't the only one stuck for hours on that part!

Yep. I actually found this instantly, only by accident. I walked into the room, accidentally misstepped, and kept falling until I landed right in front of the valve.

yeah, you have to do a bit of climbing to find the valve, its behind a pipe sorta.

that is actualy an alternative way to do it ...i did exacly the same thing ...built a ramp using barrels ..go into the red pipie on the other side climb on the ladder and jump using shift ...ya know run and jump

i am happy to see that not only i try this way . Turns out that finding this valve was more difficult to me that this crazy way
