Default How do I fix the error "Could not start Event Logger" so I can boot up ?

Hi
When Windows XP loads it gets as far as my wallpaper, no icons and an small Error Window that says "could not start the event logger" If I click OK, nothing happens and it load the task bar or icons. I tried Safe Mode and got the same error. I then tried to do a Repair using the Windows install disk and same message

Were you tweaking your services and disabled the Event Log service? Thats what it sounds like you did.

Here's a fix for this. Download a copy of BartPE, boot up, load regedit, Choose Load Hive, find the registry file on your C drive (should be CWINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\System.), go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\Eventlog\Start and check the value. It's probably set to 4 which is disabled. Change it to two and then reboot the machine.

Dunno where its from but this nasty (thedoctor) wipes out your dial-up connections on the W2K box my friend has. The fix is to start Task Manager by ctrl-alt-del and 'add a new task'. This will let you browse for applications. Find and run control.exe to restore your desktop / start button. Search for explorer.exe - you will find one dated from when your problems began. Delete or rename it and all should be well. Feeling quite chuffed with myself on that one plus ME system restore actually worked for me this weekend - anyone know how to get Powerterm colours to work with a RedHat Linux box though!?
