Water is still what your body is looking for. Water goes in quicker, iirc.

Gatorade has partially hydrogenated fat in it ... probably the worst food for you ever.

yeah, gatorade is better for after a hard workout, as it does rehydrate you and replenishes your electrolytes, which even though it sounds like marketing buzzwords, actually means something. It keeps your electrolye levels stable so you don't cramp up and your cells get the stuff they need. And as for the sugar, it's easily digestible sugar which is good for a quick refuel of energy, but not very good for sustained energy. So it's good for after a workout, or for a quick pick-me-up during a race or something.

EDIT: Don't use it as a water substitute though. Too much can be bad, as it does have calories and the sugars will get in the way. Water is still the best, and just use gatorade after working out.

It's only good after you exercise for 2-3 hours+ I believe. After exercising for 30 minutes you don't gain anything from drinking a bottle of gatorade over water other than sugar and calories.

You may find you like it better if you dilute it to half strength with water, especially if you expect to be drinking a lot of fluid.

I have 20 bottles of Gatorade laying around here, and while I don't have that exact flavor (Glacier Freeze), every single other one I do have - there's not a single mention of any partially hydrogenated anything in the ingredients list.

Maybe it's confined to that one flavor. Maybe they used to use transfats but don't anymore because of the public outcry that would result (especially from athletes who usually have very stringent diets). I don't know, but none of mine have any.

Don't believe me, I'll have pics up as soon as I can find working batteries for my A40.

everyones body is differant... but for most, chugging water after a hard workout leads to body cramps because your body simply can't take in all that liquid at once

not that im an expert, but from what ive read, gatoraid goes into the system a bit faster when the body is under distress

I found the bottle.
I usually don't drink Gatorade in the first place, this was the first one I've bought in a long time.
I was at a store earlier this week, really thirsty, and thought Gatorade would do the trick.
After drinking a little bit of it, I checked the ingredients label out of curiousity.
I was pretty disgusted to see partially hydrogented soybean oil. That's basically fake butter
I was drinking. I didn't even want to finish the bottle.

Here's a pic

Ok, so after sitting through a whole semester of cell biology, this is one of the few things I remember. Yes, Gatorade works. Why? Because it supplies you with Na+ and glucose along with water. The key there is the Na+ and glucose. Water is absorbed into your system when a cell intakes glucose from the surroundings. This intake up the chemical concentration gradient is facilitated by the simultaneous uptake of Na+ down it's chemical gradient. So, in simple terms, your body takes up sodium and glucose at the same time. When it takes up these two things, water is also taken into the body. Gatorade simply works because it has sugar and salt. Add sugar and salt to water and you have Gatorade's "scientifically proven" formula.

Hm that's pretty interesting. None of the flavors in my possession (cool blue, frost: cascade crash, frost: riptide rush, orange, x-factor: orange + tropical fruit, xtremo: mango electrico, x-factor: fruit punch + berry) have any transfats in the ingredient list.

Wonder if it's limited to just that flavor? Or are there others?

I have about 8 bottles of different flavors in my pantry and none have what deftron is talking about. That's really weird. Must be that one flavor???
