Default How long does it take for Ring Worm to go away?

My prom date apparently has ring worm, got a big rash on her chest and neck. Went to the doctor on Monday, he gave her a cream to make it go away. I haven't been able to get ahold of her, does anyone know how long it takes it to go away? WebMD was useless.

I had it behind my knee above the calf. The doctor gave me an ointment and it was gone in a couple days. I guess it depends on how serious it is.

Cheers,
Aquaman

Ah! Being one of the too common resident doctors here at AnandTech forums.............

I can tell you 6 to 8 weeks!

Cream needs to be applied liberally and every day. Did she get a pill as well? The pill works from the inside, the cream from the outside. Supposidly if she has both it can reduce the time by a week or two.

Also sucks to know you can get ring worm from athelets' foot. Same cream is used. Athelets' foot spray works the same as well.

Oh yeah, I had it.

A cheese grater works better and faster. Cauterize the patch with tobasco sauce.

Yeah, I've had ringworm before. It's really annoying and itchy. I just bought a tube of athlete's foot cream and it went away in a few weeks. After a good week of applying it, the redness was gone.

A circular saw with a ripping blade works even better. If you don't have access to one of those badboys, go for an angle grinder with a wire-wheel for a more localized effect.

That's not a ring worm, you're just maturing.

LOL!

I was actually thinking later that a plasma cutter might be even more effective and would cauterize at the same time. You could say it would increase your productivity.

When is the prom? Her case sounds serious.

Good Luck.

Well being one of the other doctors I can tell you... NEVER! The worms just dig deeper and deeper until they thrust their ovipositor into your spleen and fill you full of ringworm larvae and you EXPLODE! (-JK) Just pray that doesn't happen until after your date.

You say that awfully matter-of-factly considering it's completely false (check WebMD).

Heck ya it is! It's similar to Athelete's Foot.

UPDATE:

I stopped by her work to see her today, she's doing fine, just a little embarrassed. She showed me the mark on the neck, it honestly doesn't look too bad to me. She unfortunately has also been feeling a bit queasy the past few days, hopefully lots of rest and relaxation will take care of that. I just kept telling her that all that matter is how she feels, not if she has some marks on her throat. I honestly feel that way, too, I just want to go and have a good time. Good lord, she's so beautiful, it's gonna take a lot more than a little ringworm fungus to turn me off.

What a great outlook. Just be sure to wash your hands before touching any other part of your body.
