lol, it's very walkable. Probably 1500 feet I'd guess.

EDIT: Where are you now? I know where almost every subway station in Manhattan is.

I'm in oklahoma. My wife and other female friend is travelling to NYC soon, and will plan to stay on the Pan American Hotel near laguardia airport.

The website on the hotel states that the nearest subway is 2 blocks away. When I called the hotel, they said 4 blocks away. I read some online reviews and some reviews(not all) states that the subway is 7 blocks away.

As they will not have a car, I just want to make sure it will be most convienent for them to walk to the station(to get to all the main attractions in manhattan).

Would there be a very close bus stop near the hotel if it rains??

most likely a 10 minute walk. If they were supremely long blocks, the hotel person would probably have made note of that.

In NYC? 4 blocks should equal out to 3 muggings or so...

Seems like every city/town has its own block size...WTF is up with that? No standardization...
I grew up in Spokane, where there were 12 blocks/mile...in MOST of the city anyway...

20 NYC blocks = 1 Mile
1 NYC block = 1/20 Mile
Therefore, 4 NYC blocks = 4/20 = 1/5 mile

QED

For a complete map of NYC and the subway stations, go to http://www.mta.info

Doesn't it depend what way you are going, the North / South blocks are shorter than the East / West blocks. Eitherway, 4 of 'em is not a big deal at all, if you are going to Manhatten / NYC and can't walk 4 blocks comfortably you should seriously rethink your plans.

Ahl, Vic's google link above confirmed: " standard NYC block north of 14th Street is 1/5 of a mile on the East/ West axis by 1/20 of a mile on the North/ South axis. "

Sorry to bump a dead/answered thread, but I thought I'd answer this for completeness' sake. You are correct that E/W blocks are much longer than N/S blocks, but E/W blocks are generally referred to as avenues, so I assume if the hotel person said blocks, she meant N/S blocks, not E/W avenues.

Furthermore, avenue length in Manhattan is much more variable than block length, so you can't really say an avenue is x length...it varies with respect to proximity to Broadway and the Rivers, as those snake around things.
