Default Anti-Spam software - cheez i get like 400 spam emails every day

If you want to *really* p*ss someone off, sign him up at www.pch.com with his email (for some nice sweepstakes) Believe me, i know it

Well, i did that (stupid i am)...and on my main email i get like a~300 to 400 spam messages a day, my secondary email addr about 100, because there is an ISP spam filter installed.

Anyway, i still don't want to change my main email so i gave mailwasher a try. I had Norton's Anti-Spam soft before, still evaluating whether these programs do a good job.

Anyone else have recommendations for good Anti-Spam software, for POP3, eg. recognizing spam on the server already ?

(Btw. i know it's stupid i used my email addr for sweepstakes, esp. pch - but now i can at least try some programs before i decide to get me another free account somewhere which i might end up doing...)

greets

Default Anti-Spam software - cheez i get like 400 spam emails every day

My mother in law does sweepstake-ing big time, and used to send me a bajillion sweeps to enter online. Since she's won a Laptop, and a 24Karat Gold Replica of the Death Star as big items, and countless smaller items (Playstation.....Mugs, Shirts)...>I did it at first, and my GOD, I've not seen so much spam since Hurrican Fran came through.

Anyway. Here's what I did:

1. I made sure to set outlook express to leave messages on the server. I waited until messages started bouncing, and let them do so for the next two or three weeks. In the meanwhile, I told everyone who needed to know to send email to my yahoo account for the time being.

2. I got a Spam Tool (Mcaffee) that works OK.......

So, now instead of getting about 100 emails a day, I get about 20....which is bearable, and the McAffee tool does great for killing Porn Spam, but doesn't do much for killing Money Scams.....but it's better then 100 a day.

Your e-mail address is posted in your profile. DO you WANT spam?

I think someone (from the war thread) signed me up for junk mail to the "junk" account in my profile - at netscape - I delete whole pages of crap at a time.

Blocking words like "free", "respond", "sample", "winner", "newsletter", "offer", "complementary", etc. in the subject does make a difference.

OK, Mailwasher doesn't work with IMAP - ONLY POP3 . . . sucks to have netscape now. In a few days I will just "forget" that Netscape account (but leave it in my profile . . . ) UNLESS something that is free will work with it.

Anyone else?

SpamNet supports Outlook 2000/XP.
It's an Outlook-only plug-in.

Anything that is free and universal . . . no big deal; I still have yahoo and it is "pristine" and ALSO pop3.

It's just that Netscape USED to be my main account and it is "inconvenient" to just drop it . . .

MSN.hotmail has a "fair" filter that blocks a lot of the junk . . .

Go here and get POPfile. An excellent anti-spam program. Takes a little time to "train" and configure but its effective and free.

If you want to combine telling neither your true name nor your "true" email address with still
being able to receive replies, you can create a new, "anonymous" email account. There are two
ways to accomplish this: a simple one and a not-so-simple one.
