Default Medical help PLEASE. (uvula bleeding!?)

My girlfriend was really sick all day today. She just threw up and there was a little blood in it, and I looked in her throat and her uvula is bleeding. Is this something that you go to the doctor asap over or can it wait until tommorow?

Default Medical help PLEASE. (uvula bleeding!?)

It happens, when I got alcohol poisoning my first night in France I threw up so violently that my throat was bleeding also. That was the LEAST of my concerns, though.

She'll be fine IMO.

It appears her entire throat is very VERY red, but it looks to me like her uvula is very elongated and bleeding

I'm packing her up to go to the hospital as we speak

If the bleeding is from the damage due to throwing up (acids, etc), it will heal. If the bleeding is due from non-vomiting reasons, then it may be more serious.

Do you know why she's sick? Food poisoning?

I'd say hospital. Especially if the blood was coming up in blots (as opposed to streams). But this sounds like something in her throat got infected, as opposed to damage from stomach acids. From my experiences, the stomach acids cause an extremely strong burning sensation + nasty sour taste. If it burned through the tissue, it wouldn't be just a little bleeding...and there would be significant pain (same idea as an ulcer).

Edit: Good luck to her (and to you)

Calm down.

Yes, take her to the hospital. Don't rush though, she isn't going to die on the way. Just take your time. Assuming it was just a trickle of blood in the vomit, it's nothing to worry about. She will just be getting some antibiotics and/or anti-inflammatory drugs.

Hmmm... When I vomit, I full up garbage cans. I don't know how much she was bringing up but for me it would have to be a significant amount of blood for me to really notice.

Doctor is a goood idea to be safe.

I can't believe that someone would actually post to ask uf they should take someone who is throwing up blood to the hospital.

i knew there was going to be somethere here along these lines. There's just too much innuendo to this post to NOT have someone say something...

I'm rather pleasantly surprised that no one implied sexual causes for this incident.

Hope the gf's ok.

It doesn't sound like anything emergent. Sounds like it's just a little blood, possibly regurgitated blood sticking onto the uvula. Hard to say without examining her. Basically treat the underlying cause of her illness and keep her well hydrated.

As always...

wtf?

It wasn't a ton of blood. Also, she decided to wait out the night. (against my suggestion) because she felt much better after throwing up.

Her uvula isn't bleeding anymore, but all of her throat is red. (no white spots or anything). She can hardly stop coughing and didn't sleep much at all last night.

She said if she doesn't feel better this after she'll go to the doctor. Her head/stomach doesn't hurt... only her throat; and she had a slight fever yesterday.

Her uvula is still really long though... it looks wierd because of that.

Warm water to wash the gastric juices back down and out of the throat.
