Have you done any sort of power measurements on your rig at all? Perhaps stick a kill-a-watt in between it and see if you're really stressing your PSU out.

Only pulling about 1.4 amps total, though I'm using a clamp on meter and not sure if that's true RMS so it could be off. But that's most likely under 200w from the wall, for a 1000w psu (OCZ).
Know of a good VGA benchmark test for Linux? I'd be curious to try one. I used Furmark in Windows, but I'm hoping there is something native to Linux I can try too (not wine, but native)
Edit: Found an app called gblob, not really as good as Furmark but got the amps up to 2 while testing. When I decided to try full screen mode all hell broke loose though...

Finally got around to putting another video card in the PC, to rule out the card. Took the one from my secondary PC that I was using the run the other two monitors. So I'm stuck with just one monitor but not like I've been coding much as I'm constantly rebooting and it's a pain getting everything open again.
Wow, it's incredible how much more quiet my PC is too, crazy how loud newer cards are, never even realized it till now.
So we'll see what happens, if I still get the random lockups, cursor stuck, or artifacts.
If I end up having to buy another card then I'll try to go for one that has 3 outputs, though there does not seem to be any. Some have 2 + HDMI or other type of output, but not 3 VGA/DVI. If I could find one with 3 then I should be able to actually run triple monitor properly without having to use another machine with synergy. Though I still find Linux to be flaky with multi monitor even with two. Icons always end up on the first monitor and not the primary, full screen games try to use both, etc...

GtkPerf is my favorite. It's old as dirt, but I still like it...

Ran that one actually. I don't think that really tests the video card that much but does test GTK/GUI type stuff and it was probably a good test for me to run as GUI stuff seems to be what my issues are mostly. It ran flawlessly though.
So far with the other video card I did not get any issues though it's still early to tell as I sometimes go days without any issues, then suddenly it will strike and happen multiple times in a single hour. In a way I'm kind of hoping it's the cards as it's the easiest thing to change and not too too expensive. If I start getting into changing cpu or motherboard then I'm practically building a new computer. Especially with the prices of cpu/motherboards now, ouch! The challenge will be trying to find a video card that will hopefully not have the same issues, if it turns out it is the card.

In fact I've been told this is a nvidia problem in general, though I have a hard time believing it is ALL cards as that is a pretty serious issue. The Linux issues are too unique to even know what to Google for so I can't confirm if anyone with this particular card has run into them. The cursor stuck bug seems like it's not card related but lot of people have it too but there's no known solution.
So far today it did not do it again. When I had the 3 monitors with the separate X session it was doing it pretty much every couple hours and always on the separate X session which was on the other card and not the one I'm on now, which it did it to this morning.
So far I'm liking the Synergy setup though, I think I can live with this. The bigger, center monitor is the only monitor for my main machine, then I have a separate machine driving the other two monitors and have synergy setup so I can move the cursor across. I'd say 80% of my problems are gone just from doing this. Linux seems to not handle multi monitor very well especially if I throw more than 2 at it like I was trying to do. It's kind of nice since if I have stuff open on the secondary machine I can reboot the main one into Windows and still have the other stuff running. I setup the Synergy server in Windows too so it picks right back up again. Very neat program. I'm going to donate to the project next pay day.

I repeatedly had the same issues on an old AMD 3600 card in Vista. A search on google revealed many people having display driver crashes on Win 7 and Vista with both AMD and nvidia cards. Recently installed openSuse 12.3 KDE and everything works, older netgear usb dongles, a Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-1600 that never had Linux drivers I could install. You might give it a try and see how you fare. good luck

Well so far so good... really starting to lean towards video card. Going to give it a few more weeks before I make that purchase though. Now I'll be stuck with two video cards I can't use but yet, still work. I see a bitcoin mining rig in my future.
The trick will be finding another video card that will hopefully be stable under Linux.
