So in short, yes though hold off.

But no one knows when the next model will come out. This or next year? It will be a painful wait.

Wasn't worth waiting in my opinion.

I agree. You could always make an argument that there is always something better around the corner or with the next version. This is going to be the case with anything, however I do believe investing in a retina is not so bad at all now that the software has caught up and most of the bugs are fixed. If this was July 2012, I would say 100% no don't get it but it is totally worth getting it. I'm glad you bought it smart and enjoying it. It truly is incredible!

I ended up getting everything I needed on it and I don't have remorse like you said. What is shocking is how thin the body of the laptop is, yet it barely gets warm most of the time.

It is very cool for a MacBook most of the time I must agree. Only when you fire up a game like World of Warcraft at Retina and have settings on good does it get warm. I had temps at 85celsius and fan speeds at 4k but that is perfectly acceptable for a Mac and with those settings. Other than gaming, it's virtually silent and cool. Just what I want from a 3k machine.

I'm not going to be gaming much, but I'm curious how it's going to handle heavy CPU loads.

If you peg the CPU, the temperature climbs into the 80s and 90s, but it does not overheat.

You can always preempt the heat-ramp by using a tool like SMCFanControl. When I know I'm going to be doing something processor intensive, I will sometimes turn the fans up in advance to ~5k. It tends to keep the laptop cooler as it would get warmer than I like before the fans normally arrive at that speed.

Retina Display
How is everybody doing with the retina display being glossy ?
My trusty old 17" MBP has a matte finish screen so no distracting reflections, unfortunately it can't be upgraded to Lion...

Mine is doing just fine. Since the cover glass has been removed, the glare has gone down significantly honestly I don't even know I'm using a glossy display its that nice.

I've personally always preferred glossy screens over matte screens.

I want to hook up my laptop to my monitor which only accepts dual link DVI. What adapter should I buy to hook it up and supports 2560 by 1440?

So have I. I have always preferred Glossy displays compared to Matte in every category except glare obviously. Matte display > Glossy for glare.

Certainly worth it but it also depends on what you intend to use it for?

Update: I got my 15" Retina a few weeks ago. I love it so far. The screen is amazing, but I still prefer my 27" 1440p monitor so I'm using a thunderbolt to DVI adapter for it. My desktop is definitely faster, but most of the time I'm using my laptop since I now prefer OSX. Def worth the money for me, but that's because I'm going to be using it a lot for work and needed a laptop I could live with.
