iPhone 4 screen cracked.. Question inside
Well, my niece (1 year old) dropped my sister's iPhone on the ground, and of course the screen broke. I know you can replace the screen fairly easily, but the problem I'm having at the moment is finding a reputable, yet cheap kit that has the tools and screen in it. I saw iFixIt's was like $120 which is crazy IMO.
Does anyone know where I can get a good kit so I can fix this for her from? I don't want to just keep Googling and get random forum comments. I'd rather get comments from a site where I know the members are extremely knowledgeable.
So.... Let me know ASAP. Please! Thanks!
EDIT: Just wanting to let you know that the glass has shattered, and the screen is still completely functional as far as we can tell. It looks like the screen protector is holding it in place currently.

I hope you find a reasonably price replacement for the phone.
However, let me take this opportunity to educate you regarding MotionMan's First Law of Small Children:
"Do not give something to a small child that you want back (or want back in the same condition)."
This has served me well through two children and six nieces/nephews.

Have you ever went to Apple to get anything fixed before? There is an unwritten rule that they'll fix anything once for free, even off warranty. (I got my MBP display fixed free of charge.)
Back glass is $29 to fix on any iPhone 4 or 4s (broke mine twice) and the front is $199.
They'll probably fix it for you at a discount if it's still under Applecare and used the "free" fix before. Friend of mine got the front of his 4s fixed for $75 (he has a ton of Apple shit and goes there all the time for everything.)
Try Apple first and see what they say.

Believe me. I follow this law as well, but she said it wasn't on purpose. I don't know how it can't be on purpose. I didn't question her craziness, but that's what I was told.

The phone is out of warranty. It has no Applecare. It has nothing attached to it. She went there last year some time to get the phone fixed because she accidentally dropped it in water or something of the sort. I don't remember. They fixed that for free. I don't know if they'll do it again for her. I told her she can call and set an appointment and see what they say, but I highly doubt they'll do anything other than charge her the $199 or so.
The thing is, all that's broken is the glass. The LCD is not touched one bit. It only needs a new panel of glass and digitizer.
Thanks for that link, effowe. I'll take a gander at that one momentarily.

A 1 year old does little on purpose.
Oh, you mean your wife? You know she gave it to your niece to play with.

Have you checked http://www.missionrepair.com? Not sure if the price would be any better or not, but I usually go to them for anything iPhone.

If I remember correctly, it's expensive because you have to replace the lcd along with the glass. I'd be weary of anyone trying to sell you something otherwise.

According to iFixit, replacing the front glass is a pretty big job. It doesn't look like you have to replace the LCD panel in the case of the 4. Though it is possible to damage it during the repair.

If you do go ahead. iDemigods have the display assemblies on sale right now for $60. Half price of what iFixit wants for them. iDemigods is legit, I've bought stuff from them before when I restored an old iPod. All OEM parts. They do have third party painted glass which look kind of cool.

I've watched a guy change the front screen on a 4S. He did it for free and I believe the kit was something like $40 from Amazon. Be sure to get your carrier specific kit. There are literally TONS of small screws. GL

The thing about replacing a screen in a 4 or 4s is the fact that sometimes you aren't getting a retina display when purchasing from aftermarket vendors. Just make sure to check the reviews carefully so you know you are getting a quality part. I've replaced quite a few screens and I've always gone with the Glass+LCD combo. Only way I'll do them.

I have replaced several i4/4s screens with the cheap 20-30 kits on ebay, looked fine to me. The screws are different sizes and small so have a good work area with good lighting

I would never change out a perfectly good LCD if I do not have to.

Are they really? I've seen kits for just the glass alone. I don't understand.
Can you link me to anything? I know I can Google, but I'd rather have you find something that you deem worthy of a read from me if that makes sense.

iPhone 4 Screen Repair
Hey Guys,
I own a repair shop and a wholesale parts store. I can help you out with a few of your questions.

-Most reputable parts dealers wont sell the iPhone 4 or iPhone 4S Touch Screen/Digitizer without the LCD because they are fused together on the original. There is a reason some people buy and sell them though. Lets say you are very accident prone and break your phone on a regular basis, and lets say you repair your own iPhone screens. If it is the first time you go and repair it yourself, you can buy the LCD and the Touch Screen Separately. Once you install the two parts, they are now separate pieces. Now the next time you shatter your screen, you only have to replace the Touch Screen this time(MUCH CHEAPER). This is not recommended as dust can get in between the LCD and Touch Screen much easier when they are not fused.

I sell the screens for around $33 on my site. I am not going to put a link on here for my site. I will put a link to my repair blog, it has more helpful repair advise. You can get to the website for the parts from there if you really want to. http://iholesale.blogspot.com/

I recently did a replacement on a 4s. I went to amazon found the screen that I was looking for and it quality + build was great.
First time screen repair took me 2hours to fix it.
